Nursing Process- Assessment (Preadministration assessment) - Assess Blood pressure, pulse and respirations before and periodically during administration. Assess type, location and intensity of pain prior to and 1 hour following administration. Assess bowel function.
Be sure to teach the patient the following about this medication - Instruct patient on how and when to ask for pain medication. Change positions slowly to avoid orthostatic hypotension. Avoid alcohol, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, good oral hygiene, turn cough and breath every 2 hrs.
