Questions • What type of rhyming scheme did the author use in this poem? • What do you believe the inspiration and focus of this poem is?

Our Thoughts and Answers • 1) The rhyming scheme used in this poem was an a-b rhythm. This is when the author rhymes every other line to create a pattern that flows well. He also uses a mixture of meters including the iambic meter in some lines while having an irregular meter in usually the forth or third line. • 2) This poem was inspired by Byron’s cousin. He also focused on the idea of dark contrasting with bright light. The only knowledge that this poem is about a women is in the first few lines, after that little is referenced to her. The emphasis then changes from her to the surrounding light and glow.

Our Version To be a senior is the best All we have to do is come to school We don’t even have to take a test When May rolls around it is so cool Teachers don’t even expect us to work All we have to do is sit in class We sit in our desks and smirk If you get over a 59% you pass Then off to graduation you go When summer comes and we relax some more We will miss Ms. Bixler so Then off to college to learn some more!
