LOOKING FOR WORK STUDY The Caron lab is interested in hiring 2 WORK STUDY STUDENTS for a variety of research activities during the SUMMER months. The lab investigates several aspects of microbial ecology such as microbial diversity, trophic interactions within marine plankton communities and toxic algae blooms. The work study duties would entail hands-on basic lab chores (washing of glass ware, clean up, etc..), conducting analyses of protistan community structure for seawater samples using microscopy, and /or analyses of algal toxins using Immunological approaches (Enzyme-linked ImmunoSorbent Assays or ELISA). The candidate(s) would be trained in traditional (microscopy-based) and/or molecular (immunological) approaches depending on their time commitment and qualification. No prior training is required, however, a time commitment of at least 10 hours per week would be preferable and 4 to 5 hour blocks of time is preferred (eg. running 1 set of samples for ELISA takes ~4 hours). The applicant(s) would have the opportunity to experience different aspects of active research and would learn cuttingedge molecular approaches that are used in a variety of scientific fields.
