Lord of the Flies: Choices Name _________________________ Date __________________________ Period _________________________ Everyone makes choices all the time. Most of the choices that we make are trivial, that is there will not be a lasting effect of that choice. Trivial choices include whether to have a bagel or cereal for breakfast; whether to watch The Simpsons or Friends. Other choices have an impact on our lives for a long time: whether to study for a test; whether to obey the law; whether to have a certain girlfriend or boyfriend; whether to go to college. The boys on the island had to make many choices. The author, however, does not tell us about the trivial choices they make. In your groups, look through what you’ve read so far and identify the choices that all of the boys, or individual boys make. Examples include when Ralph first blows the conch (kon CH), when the boys choose Ralph as Chief. Record what option they had (what other choice they could have made). And decide, what, if anything might have been different had a different course of action been chosen. Last week we studied Freud’s theory of the psyche. Which part of the psyche seems to have been responsible for the choice? Work in groups, but each student keep their own chart. CONTINUE ON BACK CHOICE MADE (AND WHO MADE IT)
