The Facts In Liverpool, 95,000 children were evacuated from the city as War broke out
The Facts 57,000 of these were school children, and 31,000 were mothers and children under five years of age.
The Facts 51,000 were sent to Lancashire, Cheshire, Shropshire (Ironbridge) and Herefordshire. Another 44,000 were sent to Wales
The Facts The second programme of evacuation began following the ‘Christmas raids’ of 1940.
The Facts In December 1940, another 1,399 children were rushed out of Liverpool
The Facts Thousands more children were evacuated during the ‘May Blitz’ of 1941

The Facts Children were told to bring their belongings in a pillowcase - many came from poor families so had very little.
The Facts Many children were terrified, others saw it as an adventure or a holiday
The Facts As children arrived at their destination they were chosen by their billeters..............
The Facts ....... often based on how they looked, how strong they were, or how many were in their family
The Facts Some children were not selected at all so were dragged around homes as organisers tried to find them places.
The Facts Others were split from brothers and sisters.
