INTRODUCTION Since inception, The University of Lahore (UOL) has played a major role in developing learning and research that would provide students, wishing to study in the private sector with a wider choice. Not only a wider choice, but excellence in learning, teaching and research has always been one of the main objectives of the University. This is why, The University of Lahore (UOL), has become one of the finest institutions of higher education in Pakistan. Accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and The Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, the University has also been able to achieve the highest ranking i.e. ‘w ranking’ with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. The University is ranked among the top 500 universities of the world (QS & Times Higher Education Supplement). We continue to be at the forefront of world research, and continue to strive to produce excellent graduates in Arts, Business, Biology, Dentistry, Engineering, Information Technology, Language & Literature, Social Sciences, Pharmacy and Medicine.

PREFACE

This text is a broad and immediately useful guide for the library users. Their special needs are met by the following features of this guide: •

Thorough quantitative introduction to the library catalogues.

• Easy manifestation regarding book searching and references • State of the art library with the latest books • Books consisting of concise but thorough chapters and statements of theory. •

Catalogue short enough to reduce time and formidableness to a user friendly library.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT •

Comprehensive yet easy guide for the general public

• Provide leadership on campus in promoting and integrating library services and curriculum needs •

Modify and extend library services to the students and the respective teachers

• Utilize the Big Information Literacy Model promoting analytical and critical thinking in all subjects •

To support and facilitate the research, learning, teaching and administrative activities of the University, by organizing, maintaining and providing access to appropriate literature and information resources in such a way as to provide optimum benefit for Library users.

• To supply services and expertise designed actively to promote the effective exploitation of Library and information resources, including the teaching of transferable information handling skills. • To provide an appropriate and comfortable environment, accommodation and facilities for the use of Library resources, and for individual and group study.

OVERVIEW OF THE LIBRARY

The library of the University of Lahore fosters character development for the students, which supports the expectations of our community. Its interior design, decor, and furniture create an atmosphere of an intellectual sanctuary wherein the students and faculty can concentrate on their studies. It has textbooks, reference works and journals to meet the needs of students and the faculty. It has on hand a varied collection of audio, video and multimedia materials and its number is growing.
