Procedures A. Introduction and Motivation To engage the students, I will inform them that we will have a guest speaker visiting our classroom today. The guest speaker is a Beekeeper! This will excite them and motivate them to be attentive and cooperative. Before the guest speaker comes we will need to use our Buzz Word Glossaries. Each student will get 5 index cards. The students will be instructed to write questions using their Buzz Word Glossaries on each card and put them into the question bin in the front of the room. B. Lesson Body

This culminating experience involves a Beekeeper coming to talk to the students about what we have learned about Bees so far and what it is like to be a Beekeeper. They will bring their gear, some tools, Bee artifacts, and a listening ear. The students will be able to touch the gear, feel the artifacts and have the expert answer all of their questions. Higher level questions to ask the students: 1. What does a Beekeeper do? (Remembering) 2. How are Bees important to the world? (Remembering) C. Simplification and Extensions 1. Gifted Child – prepare 8 questions for the guest speaker instead of 5. 2. Visually Impaired Child – seat them close to the front of the room, give them their own, smaller copy of the Buzz Words to have at their desk. 3. English Language Learners – find the appropriate equivalent to the Buzz Words in their native language, allow them to copy and learn them in both languages. Speak slowly so that the child can watch your lips, listen to your annunciation, speak loudly, and place the student at the front of the room. D. Closure/Conclusion To end lesson, I will call the students back over to the Buzz Word wall. Together with the Beekeeper we will add the following words: Bee Suit, Hat with veil, Gloves, Boots, Beehive, Bee yard, Frames, Smoker, Hive tool, and Queen catcher to our Glossaries and define them. VI.

Home-School Connection/Homework Assignment/Independent Practice I will take pictures of the Beekeeper’s presentation to the class and post them to the classroom’s website.
