Lesson R-2

Lesson R-2 – Briefing/Debriefing (DTC) and Cockpit This training is there to ensure that everybody is able to follow and take part in the Briefing and Debriefing of a Flight. You should be able to operate some DTC functions and know the most important parts of your cockpit. This is very important because all Missions/Training will have a Briefing/Debriefing and all Training-Lessons will refer to Cockpit-Parts. And if you don’t know what the DED is you will not be able to follow a Training.

1 The Briefing The Briefing is very important because all available Information will be passed on to the Pilots to complete the mission. It is also important for Flight-Coordination as the general procedures are told in the Briefing. The Briefing is split in 3 parts. 1. a general Briefing 2. Briefing in the different Flights 3. Summing up the Flightbriefings All Briefing info will be saved by each pilot on the DATACARD. This is a MUST!

1.1 General Briefing This part will be executed by the Person who has the most info on the Mission. This will be the TE creator or the host most of the time. It also could be done by a Briefing file prior to the Flight which you have to dowload and read before you join the host. These are the Contents of the General Briefing 1. The Situation • weather • own forces(Support and Package) • suspected enemy forces 2. missions of the package and the different flights 3. the Rules of Engagement 4. Abort Criteria 5. Green Vector 6. Mission Commander

During the briefing noone interrupts the Person who does the Briefing. After the Mission Commander is assigned, everyone can ask questions concerning the points above.

1.2 Flightbriefing In this phase the flightlead briefs his flightmembers on the flightspecific info which are necessary to execute the flight. These are mainly parts which are all on the DATACARD. 1. Airbase Info 2. Takeoff and DED 3. Flighplan 4. the DTC Setup(Lines/Threats) 5. Primary and Secondary Targets 6. Fence-in check 7. Weapon Parameters 8. Attack Parameters 9. Datalink Parameters Also here noone interrupts the flightlead until he has finished. Then you can ask questions. If everybody has asked his questions and (hopefully) got an answer, the flightlead reports that his flight is briefed

1.3 Summing up the Flightbriefings Then every flightlead tells the other pilots what kind of mission specifc parts where decided in the flightbriefing. This are ingress/egress altitude, speed and also the time you intend to spend in the targetarea. The person who did the General Briefing then tells everyone where the Bullseye is and everyone checks this. Then the host tells everyone to go Fly-Ramp/Taxi/TO

2 Debriefing In the Debriefing every flightlead sums up how the flight was from his eyes. Then think about what was done wrong and what could be improved for the next time. Also try to write what you thought about the Mission in the Forum.
