Lesson plan to back vowels
Coursework checking Check the right answer of coursework. Class 1 has a topic discussion work, while Class 2 has the paper work. Class 1’s coursework will be checked on the second class time.
Pronunciation Clinic 1) Give the brief introduction of back vowels. (/u:/, /u/, /ɔ:/, /ɒ/, /ɑ:/ and /ʌ/) 2) Using blackboard. Write the 6 back vowels on the blackboard. I explain how to pronounce the 6 phonemes correctly, draw the picture of tongue position, tell the differences among them. 3) Give the handouts to the Ss. The handouts should contain words patterns, words discriminations. Let the Ss read it for a while, then they will say it one by one. 4) Comparison Compare the back vowels with American ones. Give the examples to show the differences. Eg: party, pass, hot, horse. (This part should be limited in 45min—1 h.)
Practices on pronunciation 1) Hand out the handouts to the Ss, let them read. The handouts contain text and two dialogues. Pay attention to their pronunciation. 2) Group work I divide the Ss into 4 groups, each group has a situation. Ss work in groups and and present their performance after 10 min.
Optional work A. For Class 1 Ss. We discuss the topic I sent them via e-mail. The Ss are required to present their ideas one by one. I’ll pay more attention to the Ss’ pronunciation and the structure of their presentation. B. For Class 2 Ss. We will discuss the famous apology article given by Edison Chan literally, grammatically, structurally. (A part needs to be limited in half an hour; B part needs to be 45 min.)
Coursework Find an article about British culture, then read it , write an article reflection about it. The number of words should not smaller than 200.
