Science & Technology with LEGO® MINDSTORMS® for Schools

Robotics At upper primary and secondary school levels, robotics are used as a means of covering important aspects of the Science & Technology curriculum.

LEGO Education is a member of the LEGO Group and has been developing unique solutions for pre-school institutions and primary and secondary schools for more than 25 years.

The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® for Schools robotics concept enables students to get to grips with principles of systems and control with the help of user-friendly, modular programming tools. Students design, make and program robots that use light, temperature and touch sensors to perform a variety of functions, including recording and collecting data.

Our quality construction sets and lesson plans are developed in close cooperation with qualified and experienced educators, specializing in early childhood development or teaching science and technology.

The concept consists of construction sets, a programmable LEGO brick called the RCX, a programming tool called ROBOLAB, and a range of activity packs.

They are designed to provide hands-on experiences and challenges for groups of children to solve together. We believe that the ability of young people to cooperate, to be original and creative, and to solve problems will be among the most important skills in tomorrow’s world.

LEGO Education products are geared to the needs of children from 1½ to 16+. During the early years the focus is on social and creative skills, as well as on introducing children to maths, literacy and science. For primary and secondary schools, LEGO Education provides a hands-on and investigative approach to science and technology.

Play Themes and Creative Construction LEGO Education’s classic play themes help to stimulate personal, social and emotional development through role play. The sets also enable children to make sense of the world, with themes such as communities, transport and animal life.

Farm sets are perfect for working on topics such as animal care, food and the seasons, and for sorting and categorizing.

Early Maths LEGO Education takes a hands-on and games approach to teaching maths at this early stage, where play and repetition are crucial elements of the learning process. Using game boards, DUPLO® bricks and simple LEGO® devices, children get to grips with classifying, counting and recognizing shapes and numbers, and solving simple maths’ problems.

Children need activities that allow them to explore things, and develop ideas by creating things with their hands. LEGO Education’s huge construction sets allow them to build all sorts of environments and models.

Early Literacy Focus on early reading skills continues to grow. Letters sets are ideal for introducing letter names, shapes and sounds, and for encouraging youngsters to develop basic literacy skills.

Make & Investigate LEGO Education specializes in helping teachers to introduce children to principles of simple construction and mechanisms. By allowing children to build structures and simple machines, and to test forces and motion, our sets give hands-on experience and make learning fun. Children experiment with wheels and axles, levers and pulleys, and investigate the effects of friction, gravity and speed. Other sets introduce concepts of generating, storing and using energy, and explore motor, wind and solar power.

Our large LEGO® DUPLO® sets cater for up to six children at a time.
