LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A CIVIL MARRIAGE Dear Brides & Grooms, These are the requirements to get legally married in Mexico The Royal in Playa Del Carmen & Gran Porto Real The Royal in Cancun & Gran Caribe Real First of all, it is very important that you go to the local Register offices in your town and mention that you will get married in Mexico, ask them about what do you have to do to make the registration of your marriage in your country when you come back home. In some places they will ask you for the Mexican apostle, legalization or translation of the document into English.

IF BRIDE AND GROOM ARE SINGLE



The wedding couple and their witnesses must to be at the hotel in Cancun three complete business days (Monday-Friday) before the wedding date, to meet with the wedding coordinator and submital documents and wedding details.



PASSPORTS



TOURIST CARDS provided by customs upon arrival at Cancun International Airport (be careful to write correctly your name on it as it is on the passport when requested). BLOOD TESTS & MEDICAL CERTIFICATES (to determine blood type RH, HIV and RPR for venereal deceases) Has to be made at your hotel in Mexico. If the HIV or RPR test results positive it is not possible to get married in Mexico. ……………Cost 170 usd per couple.



WITNESSES: you will need three witnesses, older than 18yr old, with their passports and tourist cards. They have to be here four complete business days (Monday-Friday) before the wedding date to meet the wedding coordinator.

IF BRIDE OR GROOM ARE DIVORCED, ADOPTED, WIDOW OR HAVE CHANGED NAME If Divorced:

Original or certified copy of the birth certificate, translated into Spanish by an authorized translator. These documents should be apostilled or legalized (*) Original or certified copy of the divorce decree, translated into Spanish by an authorized translator. These documents should be apostilled or legalized (*) If you have been divorce more than once, please bring with you only the last divorce decree. In case the bride has been divorced less than a year, she must to make a pregnancy test. If this test results positive, she can note be able to get married in Mexico.

If Adopted or change of name: •

Original or certified copy of adoption certificate or Dead Poll document, translated into Spanish by an authorized translator. These documents should be apostilled or legalized (*)

If Widow / widower:



Original or certified copy of former spouse´s death certificate, translated into Spanish by an authorized translator. These documents should be apostilled or legalized (*) (*) APOSTILLE VS LEGALIZATION

1.- If you are American: please contact the Secretary of State where you born. Send them your documents stating that you are getting married in Mexico and that you need an Apostille. You can get more information at www.apostille.us 2.- If you are British: please contact the Legalization Department of the Foreing and Commonwealth Office. You can get more information at www.apostille.biz

3.- If you are Canadian: please contact the nearest Mexican Embassy or Consulate in order to legalize your documents. What is the apostille? The apostille is a sealed document that certifies the authenticity of another document and make your documents legal in Mexico What is the legalization? In order to be valid in Mexico, documents issued in Canada must be legalized either by the Mexican Consulate that has jurisdiction over the region where the documents were issued or by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mexico in Canada (if you have documents from different provinces we recommend that you legalize the documents through the Mexican Embassy.
