Lecture 12 Time Study …
Time study …
The processing time exists simply because the process requires tasks and motions So the working methods and the work components are closely related to the net processing time Time study is to measure the number of seconds required to lift, sew and place something Improvements are made based on the time values and defines the differences caused by the individual differences of workes.
Time study … Improvement in time ~ Time wastage Time wastage ~ Production Production ~ Productivity Productivity ~ Profit Profit ~ Prosperity Therefore Improvement in time ~ Prosperity
Why time study?
To understand the production of the factory To find out the individual skill level To determine the time value for each work component which supports improvements and standardization To evaluate the operation (Tough or easy) For the planning and construction of new setups Useful for PPC For evaluating manufacturing cost and piece wage rate This is required to design a production control system
How to Analyze?
Continuous time observation Observation Procedure
Observation Procedure …
Determine the work process Select the workers Explain the purpose of time study to the workers The observer should stand diagonally behind the operator at a distance of 1.5 to 2 meters The number of observations shall increase in proportion to the shortness of the operation cycle
Observation Procedure …
Working conditions must be mentioned on the form. They can help in the improvements Determine the check points If any irregular movements of the worker is observed, enter a tick mark If observer is unable to record the time, enter “M” Don’t forget to note anything you have noticed during observation
Check Points …
Sew: Main operation of Work Place: Movement of placing something Lift: Movement of aligning something to other thing The sewing machine stops
The sewing machine starts running
Sew Lift
Place
Start handling next garment
