HOW TO WRITE HIRAGANA l. [n Japanese,thereare threewriting systems: Hiragana,Katakanaand Kanji. Hiraganaand Katakanaare phoneticand the samesymbol always indicatesthe same sound. 2. One hiraganarepresentsone syllable and there are five different types in syllables. a. Five basicvowels:[al,[i],[u],[e],[o] b. Consonantor semivowel+ vowel: [nal,[ki],[yu],etc. c. Syllabicconsonant:[n] / fml d. Any consonantotherthan [n] / [m] when followed by anotheridentical consonant:e.g. zasshi,kissaten,etc. e. A contracted syllable:Ikil + [ya]=[kya],lchil+ [ya]=[cha],etc. 3. The stroke orders are usually from left to right and top to bottom. 1. There are threeways to finish a stroke. Tome or 'stop' meansthat the pen has to make a completestop and should be lifted it off the paperat the end of the stroke. Hane or 'jump' meansthat you leave a jump mark before
the end of the stroke.
