LAB REPORT CHECKLIST PROBLEM  Stated in question form with a question mark at the end  Right question is asked HYPOTHESIS  The best educated guess that answers the problem and provides scientific reasoning.  Uses previous knowledge and research to formulate hypothesis MATERIALS  A complete and detailed list is given in bulleted format EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN  Identified manipulated variable correctly  Identified responding variable correctly  All controlled variables are listed

INFERENCE  Compare the hypothesis versus results.  Answers the question based on observations and attempts to incorporate the “science” behind observations  Suggestions for improvement of lab or future lab experiments are mentioned. OVERALL QUALITY  No spelling, capitalization, grammatical, and punctuation mistakes.  Neatly handwritten or typed on unwrinkled paper  Title page is present with appropriate title and a complete ID Box  If typed, the approved font and font size are used.

PROCEDURE or METHODS  Each step is numbered and the numbers line up vertically.  Each step is paraphrased.  Each procedure is described in detail, allowing another scientist to replicate your experiment

MARKS

OBSERVATIONS or RESULTS  Qualitative observations are mentioned/written in an orderly and easy-to-understand manner.  Data is organized in a table and is easy to understand  Table has a title and is located above it.  The correct graph is produced with the manipulated variable on the xaxis and is labeled.  The responding variable is on the y-axis and labeled with proper units  The graph is neatly constructed with the appropriate title  If hand-drawn, pencil and ruler were used.
