Seven Wonders of the Ancient World The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are amazing. They include the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. The historian Herodotus and the scholar Callimachus comprised these original Seven Wonders. The Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest building in the world for thousands of years; from 2570 BC to 1300 AD. Over the years it has been the victim to erosion, which has caused its height to shrink a few meters, from 146.6 to 138.8. It was originally built by the Egyptians to serve as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu. It was built around 2560 BC over a twenty-year period. It is the only Ancient Wonder, which remains intact to this date. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were built in around 600 BC by Nebuchadnezzar II. He was said to construct this beautiful garden to please his wife, who missed the flora of her homeland.
