The Keris Craftsmen Women: The Empowerment of Women in The Middle of The Madurese Patriarchal Culture Keris is often considered the inheritance which symbolizes the prestige of a man. In the patrilineal culture, the existence of the keris and men are very important. This condition can be felt by the existence of Widya Darma culture, the paradigm of the merit of men in the perfection of life that is supported by some elements such as kukila (influenza), wisma (Home), Turangga (vehicles), suspicious (keris), and women (wife). In widya dharma term, keris is a sacred object that must be owned by men. While the position of women is considered as part of the wisma (Home). This is due to the function of the women position as a form of household settings. Therefore, in the patrilineal culture, women are not allowed having keris or even involved in the making of keris. But, the condition shows the different objects in Madura. As the community who the largest hold fast patrilineal culture and central keris craftsmen in Indonesia, Madurese communities allow women to help men in making of keris. This research aims to analyze the form of the empowerment of women in the making of keris in Sumenep, Madura. The method used in this study is grounded research with historical study approach, social, culture, linguistically, and economy. Data collection is done through the observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of this research showed that the Madurese women in Sumenep will take part in the making of keris. Many of them were involved in the making of keris equipment such as the warangka and handle. Carving art that they create to beautify the warangka and handle look smooth and beautiful. The quality is uncertainty that made by the craftsmen man. In addition, women better in the financial management of the keris sales results. Therefore, they trusted by her husband for financial instructing from the keris handicraft business. To examine the involvement of women in the making of keris, then women empowerment program in central crafts keris Sumenep such as the formation of the keris is managed by women.
