Judging for Assignment 9 by RodneyBrown Gave a score of 1 – 5 for Impact, Color, Sharpness and Technical in that order Note: You folks are in the business of selling photos and presentation of photo and please take this with a grain of salt. Take a look at your pictures and say to yourself if I was purchasing this picture would I be happy with it. The main killer in just about all of these photo is sharpness I can’t stress this enough, at this stage of the game and with tripods and vibration reduction lenses and high ISO there is no excuse for your photo not to be tack sharp. I hope I didn’t upset anybody with this but I want everybody’s business and photography to excel and it the little things that you pro’s do that separate you from the everyday snap shooters Christine: Sunset from Boat #1 (4,4,4,3) 15 - I liked the warm golden color of the sunset and the color of the water, sharpness seemed to be ok. I would have like to seen a straighter horizon and I would of crop off about half of the sky (to gives you a feeling of depth) Sunset from Boat #2 (4,4,4,3) 15 - same comment as above Sunset across Boat #3 (4,5,4,4) 17 - This photo has great impact, I liked the color ,the sharpness looks good, I would straighten the horizon and I like the placement of the boats Carolyn Jensen Infrared Forest around Lake #1 (3,3,3,3) 12 - The impact for this picture was so-so, I think it could of been a little sharper to show more detail in the trees. I felt there wasn’t enough in the picture to pull me toward the main subject Sunset from the Beach #2 (4,3,3,4)14 - I like the fact of the silhouetted grass in the bottom giving a feeling of standing on the beach looking out giving it depth, the color was ok but a little monotone Night Sky after Sunset #3 (4,4,4,3)15 - I liked color in this photo and the silhouetted palm trees on the left and the sharpness looked to be ok. I would have like of seen more of a main subject in this photo (eg. Put a couple of people in chairs on the beach with the palm tree framing them in)
Marco Washington Monument #1 (2,3,3,2)10 - I have seen this photo done before at night to almost perfection and breathtaking. The initial impact was ok what really took away from this photo is the dust spot in the upper corner. The colors could have been richer and the lights I would have like to be whiter. I would have also taken it on the other side of the fountain making it less cluttered Firework #2 (2,3,2,2) 9 - the initial impact was so-so, the color could be a little richer and a little sharper. I like to see a little more to the photo (eg. A cityscape and show the trailer of the firework) Candy Cane #3 (3,3,2,2) 10 - almost same comment as above Snaphappyevie East Wind Spa #1 (3,3,3,3) 12 - for the first time doing night shots, good initial impact, the color looks decent, the sharpness looks good(could be a tad sharper), I don’t know if this building is located on a slight hill but would like to see the peak of roof straight Port Jefferson Town Hall #2 (4,4,3,3) 14 - ,the color could of used a longer exposure to bring a little more detail in the building and the light trails of the cars and it could have been a lot sharper, I like it Washington D.C #3(3,3,2,3) 11 - the picture needed either a longer exposure or to have come out a tad early when there is still a little more light, the picture need to be sharper and I would of splashed a little light on the children in the front SunnyQ Fishing at Sunset#1 (3,3,3,3) 12 - nice picture with decent sharpness , I would of like to see some of the bottom cropped off and also the photos main subject is the fishermen I would of walk around them and found a spot where I could of made them larger to bring focus to them and also silhouetted them either against the sky or the water and show and show light around arms and legs so they don’t look like blobs. It looks like they have no heads
Man with Guitar #2(3,4,3,4) 14 - I like the composition and the story behind this picture, I not sure but I think this was hand held it need a little more sharper Palm Tree Sunset#3 (3,4,4,3) 14 - I liked this picture, the color and pattern in the sky are neat and the palm against the sky is sharp and it show how simplicity can create a nice photo. I would of like to see something else in the sky like a bird or plane to the right of the palm
Robertmichael Niagara Casino#1 (3,4,4,4) 15 - I can’t say to much about this photo technically its well done Entrance to the Casino#2 (3,4,4,4) 15 - another well done picture with good colors and sharpness Peace Bridge#3 (4,4,4,4) 16 - I know this bridge and it’s a great photo of it at night ,love the colors and the sharpness and the leading lines Sginger Denver #1 (4,4,4,4) 16 - Very nice photo of Denver with a little twist of creativity and fun, color looks good, sharpness is good The Bat #2 (3,3,4,3) 13 - Neat photo, I have never seen one up close and don’t really have any plans in the future to see one that close either Jack Sunset behind mountain#1 (3,3,2,3) 11 - Nice photo of a sunset and I like the fact that you made the sky the dominant part of the picture but the picture lacks a little impact and sharpness Sunset #2 (2,3,3,3) 11 - Another nice photo of a sunset same comment as above, I look at the picture and ask myself what is the main subject, how is the focus of that subject being achieved and does the photo include only what it necessary to bring focus on the main subject.
Sunset#3 (2,3,3,2) 11 - The color is good and the sharpness is good Lindsay Boat on the River Camel#1 (5,5,4,5) 19 - Picture gives me a feeling of solitary, the color is nice and the composition is great (Way to use the rule of thirds) Lighthouse#2 (4,4,4,4) 16 - Real nice B&W photo of the lighthouse Old Church#3(4,4,4,4) 16 - Another well done B&W of the old church Topper People fishing at sunset #1 (3,3,1,3) 10 - There is a lot of things right in this picture, your people aren’t blobs you can see there arm and leg, you didn’t have the horizon cutting the picture in half. But what really took away from this photo was how blurry it was Christmas #1 (2,3,3,3) 11 - These photos are static they are set up by somebody, they are more of a snapshot type of photo a remembrance, the colour is good and the sharpness is better Christmas #2 (2,3,3,3) 11 -
Same as above
Bekkie Rally at Sunset #1 (4,4,4,4) 16 - This is a nice picture, the head lights are visible, the colors are vivid and it tack sharp Eastern Sunset #2 (3,3,3,3) 12 - I don’t find the impact in this photo, I would crop out a little of the sky the blue is a little over powering Fire and Ice #3 (3,2,3,2) 10 - Nice title , but I have no idea what I’m looking at, the only thing I could figure is that its winter (ICE) and the sun is setting(Fire) Jack (Wooley5)
Girl on Beach #1 (3,3,2,2) 10 - I’m going to make these quick, I like the colors but here I go, the sun is in the middle as well is the horizon that cut right through the girls head. #1 turn off blurry pictures use a tripod for long shots Girl on the Beach #2 (3,3,3,2) 11 This one is a little better the girl is a lot sharper due to the flash ,I would of like the girl to be bigger in the photo and less sky so your horizon is not down the middle Sherryg Swing in sun set #1 (3,3,2,2) 10 - I would have like to see maybe a couple sitting on the bench, the sun should be over to the right and the tree is going through the bench, if you would have just moved over a bit and then cropped the right side. Sharper too. Person on Bench#2 (3,3,2,3) 11 - Same thing kind of here, the horizon you cut in half and the sun and the person on the bench is dead center on the vertical plane. The colors are good but would of like to see the man doing something so he does look like a blob on the bench, show detail of limbs . Sharpness is very important Tree and Bridge#3 (3,3,2,3) 11 - Just one thing SHARPNESS Audra Sunset-Claremore OK #1 (5,5,4,4) 18 -
Love the color it reminder of the aurora sunsets we have in Northern Canada, the colors compliment each other ,well done
Train at Dry Glutch #2 (3,4,4,3) 14 -
the picture is sharp, it has good color but a little to cluttered for me
Vinita Oklahoma #3 (2,2,2,2) 8 -
this is just blown out losing any impact or detail
David Anderson Key Largo #1 (4,4,3,4) 15
-
I love the colors in this one, it could be a little sharper and I would of cropped the bottom up to the base of the tree, the top I would of cropped the palm tree just to show about 2/3 rd of the bottom palm and cropped in the left a little to put more infancies on the boat
Key Largo #2 (3,4,3,3) 13 - This one to had great possibilities so lets start with a few minor thing, the blob in the front left does nothing for the photo, you have a pole going through the center of the boat and it need to be sharp and if you look at your horizon you got it right down the center Salt Lake City#3 (3,3,3,3) 12 - I like photos like these. I would of waited a little longer until it got a little darker for cityscape I like contrast and the color of the light of the buildings and cars to pop against the blackened city with that beautiful purplish glow of the sky. I would of also cropped down on the sky. Sharper also
Judy Utah #1 (3,3,2,2) 10 - Nice sunset I can’t see the road to well I would have had my spouse pull to the side of the road and walked up a little then when I was read have the drive by me a ways then turn around and drive pass me. The white and red trailers would of gave the view the sense of the road Ensanada#2 (3,3,3,2) 11 - Lovely colors would of like it to be a little sharper but being on a ship with its motion its hard to get a tack picture San Diego#3 (3,3,2,3) 11 - Sorry judy I’m tired the only thing it has be sharper Bill Sunsets#1 (5,5,4,5) - I love the first one I have no comments since how does a student judge his teacher Krebbs : I hope you don’t mind I just gave you a score and no comments Photo#1 (3,3,4,4)14 Photo #2 (3,4,3,4)14 Photo#3 (4,4,4,4)16
