There is no place for discrimination in Gainesville! Don’t be fooled by the scare tactics. Charter Amendment 1 is really about discrimination.
As a firefighter, she protects us. Will we be able to protect her? “I have lived and worked in Gainesville for 18 years. Currently, Gainesville law protects me from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations. Unfortunately, state and federal law do not prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation. If Charter Amendment 1 passes, I could be fired from my job, turned away from a hotel or restaurant, or denied housing simply because of my sexual orientation. As a firefighter I protect all Gainesville citizens, regardless of who they are. Vote No on Charter Amendment 1, and let Gainesville continue to do the same.”

Charter Amendment 1 would remove existing nondiscrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. It would make it legal to fire someone, even a firefighter, from her job because of her sexual orientation. Vote early 9 a.m.–5 p.m. March 16-21 at the Alachua County Administration Building, 12 SE 1st Street. For an absentee ballot call the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections at (352) 374-5252.
