Leadership Dynamics 2009 INTRODUCTION Leadership basically would mean influencing a group of people to move towards a common goal. There are many types of leader; from bureaucratic to autocratic. Whatever one’s leadership style is like, leaders should aim to be someone dynamic and transformational. Many organisations aim to identify, grow, foster and promote what they see as leadership potential or ability. What is important is however, to have leaders who are not only result orientated, but also someone who is dedicated to the task and his subordinates. Every organisation needs leaders at every level. Those individuals best suited to lead a group of people will somehow rise to the occasion and that followers will accept them as leaders. Those who are appointed at managerial level have the right to command and enforce obedience by virtue of the authority of his position. However, this particular individual must possess adequate attributes to match this authority in order to be respected as a leader. In the absence of sufficient personal competence, a manager may be confronted by an emergent leader who can challenge his role in the organisation. Effective leaders generate higher productivity, lower costs and mere opportunities than ineffective leaders. They also create results, attain goals, realise vision and other objectives more quickly at with better quality than ineffective leaders. A leaders needs to embrace his function of clearing the path towards the goals of a group, by meeting the needs of his subordinates. This masterclass will provide all manager and to-be manager an opportunity to distinct themselves as leaders; as leaders are inspiring visionaries, concerned about substance where as managers are planners who concerns with process. Delegates will also learn that the basic of building a team would be building trust on top of how empathising and respecting the difference between your team members will earn respect.
