For a lighter Side of Life Engineer in Hell
Dish Licking Bryant, a youngster about four years old, loved having ice cream after dinner every evening. He would sit on his mother's lap and have a small bowl for dessert. Unfortunately, he developed the habit of licking the bowl afterwards to "make sure he got it all". This went on for a while, much to his mother's embarrassment . Finally, trying to tactfully hint that it was not such a great idea, she said, "You know, when I was your age, my mother said that licking my dish was a VERY impolite thing to do." Bryant thought a minute, and then responded, "Well you can do it now if you like, because I don't mind at all!"

An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer--you're in the wrong place." So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while they've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day God calls Satan up on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there in hell?" Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next! God replies, "What??? You've got an engineer? That's a mistake--he should never have gotten down there; send him back up here!" Satan says, "No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I'm keeping him." God replies "Send him back up here or I'll sue." "Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?"

A Lesson from the Coffee Bean A daughter complained to her father about how hard things were for her. "As soon as I solve one problem," she said, "another one comes up. I'm tired of struggling." Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen where he filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In one he placed carrots; in the second, eggs; and in the last, ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word. The daughter impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After a while, he went over and turned off the burners. He fished out the carrots and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He poured the coffee into a bowl. Turning to her he asked, "Darling, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled, as she tasted its rich flavor. She asked, "What does it mean, Father?" He explained that each of them had faced the same adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg was fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. By being in the boiling water, they changed the water. He asked his daughter, "When adversity knocks on your door, which are you?"

Rewording of 1 Corinthians 13 for FATHERS In His Time...
If I speak in the slang of my teens and understand the language of their peers, but do not give them love, I am just like so much noise falling on their ears. If I could tell my children exactly what their future holds; if I knew everything ahead of them, and if I believed that someday each one of them would be successful, but do not give them love, I am nothing. If I give them everything they want; if I sacrifice all I have - even my life - for them, but do not love them, they gain nothing. - A father's love is patient even with straying offspring. It is kind to the daughter who is hurting, even if it is her own fault. It never says: "I told you so!" - Fatherly love is not rude, even to the rebellious son, nor easily angered by his ways. - A father's love does not delight in dire predictions which come to pass, but rejoices at the slightest sign of reform in the teen who drifts away. - Fatherly love protects the toddler; firmly guides the adolescent; hopes for those who falter year after year. - A father's love should never give up. Our plans for the future may fail. Our advice may be refused. Our knowledge may fall short, for we do not know everything and we cannot control our children. But we can always love. When I was a young father, I was a visionary. I had all the formulas for successful childrearing. But when my children grew up, I had to put those immature ideas behind me. Now I have no answers; I know so little and my understanding is limited. Only in heaven will I know the rest. There my understanding will be complete, my joy will be total and my tears will be wiped away. Three things I have now: FAITH that my children will remember their training; HOPE that this will influence their lives for the better, and LOVE that continues no matter what. And the greatest of these three is LOVE!
In His time, He makes all things beautiful With tear-dimmed eyes, we may not see how. Keep on trusting in your Father's wisdom, Do not fear - you're in His hands right now. Jesus Christ, your Saviour and Redeemer, Loves you so - of that you need not doubt. He has a plan - thoughts of peace, for your good His plan, that He is working out. In His time, He makes all things beautiful Working all according to His plan; He has a purpose He set in motion Even though we may not understand. Father, perfect that which concerneth me Help me, Lord, to lay these burdens down. Grant me peace, to know I am in Your will; Strengthen me, with joy surround. In His time, He makes all things beautiful He heals the soul, binds up the broken heart. He comforts with a grace beyond all measure Hope in Him, and let Him do His part. He knows your needs before you even ask Him. Give Him your cares - whether great or small. Just trust the Lord - He knows the best time To make all things beautiful!
SAINT for the WEEK September 28 St. Wenceslas (Vaclav). Jerry Bouey
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: He has made everything beautiful in His time: also He has set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.

Jambo You(th) 2009
A Duke of Bohemia (now Czech Republic) he was born in 902 and succeeded to the title at the age of 20. A devout Christian, he worked in harmony with the Church to bring religious and educational benefit to his people. He sought contacts with Christians elsewhere, including the neighbouring German Empire, whose political claims he was prepared to recognise. This brought him the hostility of a number of leading non-Christians in his own land, who gathered round Wenceslas’ own brother, Boleslav. Some henchmen carried out the murder of Wenceslas in 929 as he attended Mass, in a scene reminiscent of the death of St. Thomas Becket. In a fit of remorse, Boleslav tried to make amends by having his brother’s remains transferred to a fine tomb in the Prague church of St. Vitus, where they became a centre of pilgrimage. He was being honoured as a saint from at least 985 and shortly afterwards his head appeared on the country’s currency.
