Slow down and enjoy Life Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You’d better slow down Don’t dance so fast Time is short The music won’t last. Do you run through each day? When you ask, “How are you?” Do you hear the reply? When the day is done Do you lie in your bed With the next hundred chores Running through your head? You’d better slow down Don’t dance so fast Time is short The music won’t last. Ever told your child, We’ll do it tomorrow And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, Let a good friendship die Because you never had time To call and say “Hi”? You’d better slow down Don’t dance so fast Time is short The music won’t last. When you run so fast to get somewhere You miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day, It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away... Life is not a race. Do take it slower Hear the music Before the song is over.

A very hard working mother cultivated all kinds of vegetables in her garden. One day she said to her daughter: “Betty, come here a moment. Look at all these little yellow marks that are on the interior part of the leaves of the cabbages. They are eggs and from those eggs will be born very beautiful but very dangerous insects. This afternoon you must check the leaves one by one and destroy all the eggs that you find. In this way you will help us to have better, greener and bigger cabbages.” Betty thought that there was no particular hurry for that kind of work and in the end she forgot all about the matter. Her mother fell ill for a few days and could not work in her garden. However, as soon as she was well, she took her negligent child with her to the garden to see the cabbages. What a sight! Every single leaf had been eaten and all that remained were the stalks. The child, at once frightened and upset, began to cry because of her negligence. Her mother, however, said to her: “What can be done today should never be put off till tomorrow. But more important still,” she continued, “you must learn to nip the evil while it is still in the bud, otherwise it will be too late to do anything and the consequences will always be fateful.” Lesson : A Lazy mind is a devil’s workshop, it is important to check the evil inclinations before it becomes a habit that destroy life. www.esnips.com/web/JamboYouth

Beatitudes for Carers. Life is Mission Dear Young People, Have we ever thought that we are created for a particular mission? Have we ever thought that our entire life is a mission given to us by the Creator – God? What do we mean by the word mission? The Oxford Dictionary defines mission as a particular work that you feel it is your duty to do. Definitely, we have many duties to fulfill in our life. Do we fulfill them diligently? I want to define mission as a particular commitment that one embraces in his or her life in response to God’s call. Thus when we say ‘life is mission’ we imply that life is a commitment that each individual person chooses in order to fulfill the purpose for which he or she was created . In a biblical perspective, we cannot speak of mission before Vocation. This means that we are first called (Vocation), and then sent (Mission). Therefore, we can rightly say that Life is Vocation Vis-à-vis Mission. Note: There is a Caller – God and Sender – God. So, it is God who calls and sends! Ours is to respond! In order to understand how our life is both Vocation and Mission, we need to ask ourselves one catechetical question: Why did God create us? To know Him, to love Him and serve Him. Here we should note that by virtue of our creation, we received both vocation and mission. In the OT different people were called (Vocation) and sent (Mission) – Abraham (Gen. 12:1-9); Moses (Ex. 3:1-14); Jeremiah – (Jer. 1: 4-10); Isaiah – (Isa. 6:1-8); Samuel – (1Sam. 3: 1-16) In the NT we see Jesus’ Vocation and Mission. In the gospel of Luke, Jesus declares his Vocation and Mission: He says: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed [Vocation] me to bring the good news to the poor. He has sent me [Mission] to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Lk. 4:18-19) In fact, this was Jesus’ life’s Mission Statement! What is your life’s mission statement? We still notice other exemplary figures in the NT whose life is Vocation and Mission: For in stance the Virgin Mary: Lk. 1: 26–38 Vocation and Mission to be the mother of God. The call of the 12 apostles Mat. 10: 1-25. They are called and sent! Of great importance to mention is the commissioning that Jesus does before ascending to Heaven: And Jesus came and said to them …go therefore and make disciples of all nations, (Mat. 28:18-20)
Reflection What is my mission in life as a young person? By Anastasio SDB An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory. Friedrich Engels www.jamboyouth.multiply.com Jambo You(th) 2007
Blessed are those who care and who are not afraid to show it they will let people know they are loved. Blessed are those who are gentle and patientthey will help people to grow as the sun helps the buds to open and blossom. Blessed are those who have the ability to listen – they will lighten many a burden. Blessed are those who know how and when to let go – they will have the joy of seeing people find themselves. Blessed are those who, when nothing can be done or said, do not walk away, but remain to provide a comforting and supportive presence – they will help the sufferer to bear the unbearable. Blessed are those who recognize their own need to receive, and who receive with graciousness – they will be able to give all the better. Blessed are those who give without hope of return – they will give people an experience of God. Saint of the Week August 14th St Maximilian Kolbe (1894-1941) Born near Lodz in Poland he was drawn to the Franciscan Order. Maximilian studied in Rome and was ordained in 1919, though his career was bedeviled by tuberculosis. Realising the need for effective Christian teaching through publishing, he set up presses operated by lay brothers at Niepokalanow, near Warsaw. The community there eventually numbered no less than 762 friars. In the early 30s Maximilian worked in Japan founding a community in Nagasaki. After the German invasion of Poland, the friars community there was initially dispersed but then reformed as a refugee camp for Polish Christians and Jews. Maximilian was arrested as a "journalist, publisher and intellectual and sent to Auschwitz in May 1941 where he continued his priestly ministry discreetly, hearing many confessions and smuggling in bread and wine for Mass. If anybody escaped, others from the same bunker were chosen to be starved to death. When this fate was about to befall a married sergeant with children, Francis Gajowniczek, Maximilian offered to take his place. He prepared all the prisoners in the death cell No. 18; by August l4th only four were still alive, and Maximilian was given a fatal injection. He was canonised in 1982, when the man whose life he saved was still living, and able to attend the ceremony in Rome.
