APRIL 2009, THE 8TH e-Transport

Conference

and

exhibition

a

great

success

The e-Transport Conference and Exhibition recently held at the Sandton Convention Centre was a great success. The biennial conference is a flagship project of ITS South Africa and the theme for this year's conference was "Transport Solutions for SWC2010 and Beyond: Moving People Smartly". The conference brought together local and international experts, exhibitors and delegates. Best practice solutions, products and services were on show at the exhibition attended by 31 exhibitors and saw more than 250 people attending. Focus areas and topics discussed by the 13 local and 18 international experts at the conference included Open Road Tolling and Electronic Fare Collection, Communication and Technology, and Public Transport and ITS Operations. A pre-conference site visit tour to the SA National Roads Agency Network Management Centre, the Gautrain pre-cast yard and workshop and the Rea Vaya BRT station in Joubert Park provided an insight into new transport infrastructure.

The International ITS Master class held after the conference in conjunction with PIARC, SANRAL and the ITS Centre of Excellence provided delegates the opportunity to network with Prof Mike Walton, past president of ITS America and Ernest H Cockrell Centennial Chair of Engineering at the University of Texas in Austin as well as Martial Chevreuil of PIARC and Jan Coetzee, of ITS Engineerings and Nabil Abou-Rahme of Techso.

ITS South Africa acknowledges the positive support received from the various high profile sponsors in hosting e-Transport 2009. The presentations of the pre-conference site visits, the two-day conference and the ITS Master Class is available on the ITS South Africa website for members and Conference delegates.
