Labor and Likud (two versions of Israel’s role) 1. Labor’s roots in the General Zionism of Ben Gurion and Chaim Weizman and the military role of the Haganah. 2. Likud’s roots in the Revisionist Zionism of Jabotinsky and the military role of the Irgun (Menachem Begin). 3. The leadership of Israel has alternated between Likud and Labor since 1977.
