Is Jesus a REAL son? by David Dence

We are here considering Jesus’ relationship to the Father before the incarnation. Let’s think this through carefully. If He is indeed a real son he MUST have a mother. Let’s get practical. Let’s not throw common sense out the window. So who is Jesus’ mother? On this issue the Bible is silent. But I have some good friends who think they know who Jesus mother is. That’s right. They think there is a female in heaven! And of course that would be a logical deduction. Now we sink into some slimy situations. Let’s not even go there. One major contributing factor is this: The only place in God’s creation where procreation is practiced is right here on planet Earth. The only place where there are fathers and sons, mothers and daughters is here. So when Jesus is called the son of God, we are to understand that this is a figure of speech. This is only for human consumption. Just to help us understand the close relationship that exists between them. Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. This does not mean that God is male and female. This detail is mentioned in the narrative because it was an unusual feature. No where else in His creation did He create beings as male and female. “All heaven took a deep and joyful interest in the creation of the world and of man. Human beings were a new and distinct order. They were made "in the image of God," and it was the Creator's design that they should populate the earth.”--RH, February 11, 1902 “Christ is the pre-existent, self-existent Son of God.... In speaking of his pre-existence, Christ carries the mind back through dateless ages. He assures us that there never was a time when He was not in close fellowship with the eternal God. He to whose voice the Jews were then listening had been with God as one brought up with Him.--Signs of the Times, Aug. 29, 1900. {Ev 615.2} “He was equal with God, infinite and omnipotent. . . . He is the eternal, self-existent Son.--Manuscript 101, 1897. {Ev 615.3} “While God's Word speaks of the humanity of Christ when upon this earth, it also speaks decidedly regarding His pre-existence. The Word existed as a divine being, even as the eternal Son of God, in union and oneness with His Father. From everlasting He was the Mediator of the covenant, the one in whom all nations of the earth, both Jews and Gentiles, if they accepted Him, were to be blessed. "The Word was with God, and the Word was God." Before men or angels were created, the Word was with God, and was God.--Review and Herald, April 5, 1906. {Ev 615.4} “Christ shows them that, although they might reckon His life to be less than fifty years, yet His divine life could not be reckoned by human computation. The existence of Christ

before His incarnation is not measured by figures.--Signs of the Times, May 3, 1899. {Ev 616.1} “Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection, and the life." In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, underived. "He that hath the Son hath life." The divinity of Christ is the believer's assurance of eternal life.--The Desire of Ages, p. 530 (1898) {Ev 616.2} You do not need to understand Greek or Hebrew. If you can read English, you should be able to see that God the Father and God the Son grew up together. They are the same age. Since God the Father is invisible Jesus became visible so that we might see the Father. John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. John 5:37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. John 6:46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. John 14:7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? NO SEX IN HEAVEN (sorry) Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. God has no need of sex. If He wants a thousand children He can simply speak them into existence. God does not expect us to accept a mystic or cosmic religion. The Catholics are taught to believe that when the priest places the wafer on their tongues it becomes the literal flesh of Christ. You and I both know that that is nonsense. Yet we are also guilty of believing doctrines that are just as false. So what can the poor deceived soul do about it? Very little. The deceived person is usually the last one to know about it. That is the grave danger of deception. The only hope is for an enlightened friend or teacher to point out the deception. This gives the Holy Spirit an opportunity to move upon their heart to renounce

their error and accept the truth. Hebrews 1 (Amplified Bible) 4[Taking a place and rank by which] He Himself became as much superior to angels as the glorious Name (title) which He has inherited is different from and more excellent than theirs. 5For to which of the angels did [God] ever say, You are My Son, today I have begotten You [established You in an official Sonship relation, with kingly dignity]? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He will be to Me a Son? [; Ps. 2:7.] 6Moreover, when He brings the firstborn Son again into the habitable world, He says, Let all the angels of God worship Him. Read the above verses again. When your son was born did you greet him by announcing, “This day I have begotten you?” Of course not. That would not be a true statement. There is no way you can beget a son and welcome him into the world on the same day. You must wait about nine months. You see the problem. We need to take a closer look at the word begotten. It simply means to bring forth. Like drawing back the curtains and allowing your son to make his grand debut on a stage. And why did God deem this necessary? Because up until that time the angels did not realize that Michael was God. Not even Lucifer knew that fact. So before the Godhead could move ahead with plans to create a new world with new people with the possibility that a redemption plan might have to be implemented, they needed to reveal Michael’s true identity. Hebrews 5:5 (Contemporary English Version) That is how it was with Christ. He became a high priest, but not just because he wanted the honor of being one. It was God who told him, "You are my Son, because today I have become your Father!" Some may say, “Well, if He is not a real son then He is just role-playing.” JUST role-playing? Let’s never minimize the importance of role-playing. Jesus is the greatest role-player of all time. He is known by 72 different titles! He is the Rose of Sharon. He is the Bright and Morning Star. He is the Lamb. He is the Shepherd. He is the priest. He is the Sacrifice. He is the Son of God and the Son of man. He summed it up by telling Moses “I AM, THAT I AM.” No one argues about whether He is a real Lamb, or a real Shepherd or a real Rose, or real Bread. What about Revelation 5:6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. Does He REALLY have seven eyes? And seven horns?

Galatians 3:29 (Worldwide English) If you belong to Christ, you are Abraham's children. And if you are Abraham's children, you will receive the blessing that God has promised. So does this make me a real son of Abraham? Not really, but it is an honored role that I accept by faith. Praise God. “The unfaithful servant was a poor, deceived, dishonest soul. He said, "I knew thee that thou art a hard man." But was this accusation true? He makes it manifest by his charge that he was not acquainted with God, and judged God to be one altogether like himself.”--YI, December 14, 1893 “The incarnation of Christ has ever been, and will ever remain a mystery. That which is revealed, is for us and for our children, but let every human being be warned from the ground of making Christ altogether human, such an one as ourselves: for it cannot be.”--13MR 19 also The SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 5, pp. 1128 John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 1 John 3:1,2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. Are you a REAL son of God? You are a son of God in the same way Jesus is. Amazing! And just in case you are a bit doubtful listen to this: Matthew 12:47-50 (The Message) Someone told Jesus, "Your mother and brothers are out here, wanting to speak with you." Jesus didn't respond directly, but said, "Who do you think my mother and brothers are?" He then stretched out his hand toward his disciples. "Look closely. These are my mother and brothers. Obedience is thicker than blood. The person who obeys my heavenly Father's will is my brother and sister and mother."
