Irony Presentation

Irony The literary technique that involves surprising, interesting or amusing contradictions.

*Contradict=(v ) to say or imply the opposite.

Verbal Irony • Words are used to suggest the opposite of their usual meaning.

“Nice Shot!”

Dramatic Irony • There is a contradiction between what a character thinks and what the reader/audience knows to be true.

Situational Irony • An event occurs that directly contradicts the experiences of the character, the reader, or the audience.
