IRIS RECOGNITION ABSTRACT Iris recognition is a method of biometric authentication that uses pattern recognition techniques based on high resolution images of the irides of an individual’s eyes. Its working uses camera techonology, with infrared illumination reducing specular reflection from the convex cornea, to create images of the detail rich, intricate structure of the iris. Converted into digital templates, these images provide mathematical representations of the iris that yield unambiguous positive identification of an individual. Advantages: 1.Distinct irides for person specific identification. 2.Non invasive technique. 3.long term stable information than fingerprinting. Disadvantages: 1.Relatively new technique. 2.Difficult to perform from larger distances. Applications: 1.At airport, passport free immigration. 2.Mainly for security purposes.(border crossing security check). 3.In certain countries used in ATM environments(for checking). 4.Monitoring prison transfers and releases. 5.Easy employee identification and verification.
