Invitation to Workshop on “Alternative Forms of Care for Children without Parental Care” Dear Sir/ Madam, Greetings from YCDA!!! The number of children who have lost one or both of their parents or have temporarily been separated from them, continues to increase dramatically, among others due to the illness, migration, accident, conflict at home or of children whose parents due to circumstances are not able to care for them.These children often end up in orphanages, residential schools or other types of institutions. But is this in the best interest of the child? What alternative forms of care are available? Are organisations which have a long history in providing institutional care, interested in and able to implement these alternatives? There are varieties of alternative child care options/approaches are available in other part of the country where children are provided with home based care facilities and addressed their rights. We in YCDA have been implementing a project where orphan and other vulnerable children are provided with community based care. To discuss this concept and our learning, we are organizing a Regional level Workshop as per the following schedule; Date: 18th – 19th December 2009 Venue: Pantha Nivas, Sambalpur Tel. 0663 – 2411282. We are inviting some institutions who managed orphanages, organizations working on child right issues, Chairpersons of Child Welfare Committees and some resource agencies to this workshop. Keeping your concern towards the children’s issue, I would like to request you to participate in the workshop and share your experiences. We request only the chief functionary to attend the programme. Kindly confirm your participation through mail as soon as possible to help us organizing logistic arrangements. Regarding the expenses, we will meet the workshop related expenses along with accommodation facilities during the workshop and request you to meet your own travel cost.
