Encouraging responsiveness and flexibility to changes in environmental factors through organisational structure and culture. Making task performance and indivudual/group satisfaction more important design criteria than performence and unity of design type Creating within a single organisation bureaucratic units side by side with task-centred « matrix » units which can respond to particular pressures and environmental volatility. Systems = « wholes » (complete, not broken) A system is a collection of related (apparenté à) parts that interact in an organised way for purpose. A system can be made up of many sub-systems. Operating environment : inputs (informations fournies) > process > outputs (rendement, production)
