One Year Anniversary of BURMA’s Saffron Revolution:    Roundtable Discussion and Memorial Service    One year after the military regime of Burma brutally cracked down on tens of thousands of peaceful  protestors led by Buddhist monks, the political situation in Burma remains dire with many monks and  political prisoners remaining behind bars and being tortured to death. During these two part events,  we will honor the sacrifices of U Gambiya, Aung San Suu Kyi, Min Ko Naing and the likes of many  others in Burma and recommit ourselves to vigilance against oppression.  We hope to see you there!    EVENT 1: Roundtable Discussion with U Kawvida U Kawvida, one of the monks who peacefully and successfully led the Saffron Revolution in September 2007, will be in LA to share with us his experience and the sheer brutality he witnessed during the crackdown.. This is a rare opportunity for everyone to meet face to face with the speaker and freely discuss challenges and opportunities for the restoration of freedom and democracy in Burma. EVENT 2: Memorial Service for the Fallen Heroes of the Saffron Revolution A memorial service in accordance with the Buddhist tradition will be held for those who were gunned down and beaten to death during the Saffron Revolution. To honor those heroes and commemorate the anniversary, Ko Moe Kyaw , U Khin Maung Shwe and U Phone Yaung Oo from LA Organizers will be ordained as Buddhist monks on that day. Anyone who wishes to be ordained on the same day as part of the commemoration of the Saffron Revolution is encouraged to contact the monastery. Shan Noodle and refreshments will be served.
