INTRACORONAL ATTACHMENTS FOR REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES
Intracoronal precision attachments for removable partial dentures are primarily selected when: A. The retaining abutments are large enough for adequate tooth reduction for the attachment female to be incorporated into a normal crown contour. B. Strong or multiple abutments exist as the forces are directed to the retaining abutments. C. A stable occlusal table is desired. D. Often opposing either a full denture or a bilateral free-end removable partial denture. Intracoronal precision attachments are normally rigid or non-resilient directing forces down the long axis of the retaining abutments. Therefore, multiple abutments are common. Intracoronal rigid attachments provide for a more stable occlusal table and removable prosthesis.
FR Attachment The FR system for removable partial dentures is a technological revolution for what many call semi-precision or "mill-ins." A tapered, friction retained intracoronal precision attachment for removable partial dentures with a lingual arm and for segmented bridgework or non-parallel abutments in fixed bridgework. The female is actually cast against the prefabricated male for total accuracy, improved proximal wall contacts, and tremendous time and labor savings. This simple and inexpensive attachment uses a single investment technique, eliminates porcelain in the female due to the silicone male, allows for easy and accurate duplication, no soldering is needed, easy separation of male and female, and the miniature size allows for use in ‘close bite’ situations. Easy insertion because of the tapered male, improved esthetics (no metal on the occlusal), excellent retention and reduced wear account for this being one of the most popular attachments in dentistry.

UNOR 10802 UNOR Instructions The UNOR is a screw adjustable retention precision attachment for intracoronal use. The beveled male is adjustable so retention may be either increased or decreased, allowing for easy patient insertion and removal, thus less wear. Vertical height may also be altered for short or ‘close bite’ situations. The female may be directly cast with precious or semi-precious alloys for easy fabrication. A female ceramic former is available for creating a female in non-precious castings. The excellent external wall contact allows for guide plane stability. The male may be connected to the cast frame by acrylic resin, composite resin, or solder. The system also allows for conversion of a fixed bridge to a removable partial denture if distal abutments are lost.

EXTRACORONAL ATTACHMENTS FOR REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURES
Extracoronal precision attachments for removable partial dentures are recommended when: A. Less tooth reduction is required. Retaining abutments are small to avoid over-contoured intracoronal attachment abutments and/or pulpal exposure. B. Extracoronal precision attachment are traditionally easier to insert and remove. These are used for patients with limited manual dexterity, or the prosthesis has a difficult path of insertion and removal. C. The patient does not always wear the removable prosthesis. Intracoronal females in retaining abutments will collect food and present problems when the patient attempts to seat the intracoronal retained prosthesis. Extracoronal Precision attachments are normally resilient to allow free movement of the prosthesis to distribute potentially destructive forces or loads away from the abutments to supportive bone and tissue. Three distinctive movements are defined in function: (1) Hinge, (2) Vertical, and (3) rotational. The fewer abutments remaining, and the weaker the abutments are, the greater the need for resiliency or free movement to direct the forces away from the abutments to the supportive bone and tissue via the base of the prosthesis.

OVERDENTURE BARS
Bar systems may be utilized for overdentures, removable partial dentures, and implant prosthesis. Bars may be rigid or resilient, permitting free movement of the prosthesis to direct forces away from the retaining abutments to the supportive bone and tissue. Bar systems are generally in one of three types: 1. Prefabricated ‘Dolder’ type 2. Plastic ‘Hader’ type 3. Round ‘Clip" bars and riders The shape of the bar is indicated by the amount of room available, by the shape of the alveolar ridge, and the type of construction. However, we recommend the round plasti-wax bar, which may be more easily bent to follow the alveolar crest. Do not engage labial soft tissue undercuts with the denture base flange, as this will alter the path of insertion and cause excessive wear and servicing requirements.
Preci-Horix/Hader Hader Bar instructions
The Preci-Horix, or Hader, bar and rider system is the most popular of all bar systems due to its economy and simplicity. The Hader bar is available as a burnout pattern in plastic and plastic wax, and also in either palladium alloy or a yellow gold alloy. The system allows the prosthesis to rotate around the bar. The riders may be either the plastic rider or the precious metal Ackermann clip. Another advantage is superior stability, retention, and the option of abutment splinting. Recommended use is processing the Horix Metal Housings into the denture using the Horix Processing Spacers, and then using one of the three grips of plastic Horix clips in the metal housings. Relines or making a new prosthesis is made easy by using the Horix White Delrin Analogues in the impression.

OVERDENTURE STUD
Stud precision attachments are primarily used on roots and implants for retaining removable partial dentures or overdentures. All stud attachments MUST be parallel to each other to provide ease of insertion and removal and reduce wear potential. Do not engage labial soft tissue undercuts with the denture base flange, as this will alter the path of insertion and cause excessive wear and servicing requirements. Stud attachments are low in profile to reduce leverage upon the retaining abutments, are easy for patient hygiene maintenance, allow physiologic independent movement of abutments, and are easy to service.
