Lightning Impact goes to community. Yes, it is possible. When lightning is striking tower, current of lightning is carried down by metal tower or down conductor goes to earth and it’s dissipated by earth via earth termination system such as grounding rods, electrode cables, grounding plate or any metal buried underground as earth electrode. If capacity of lightning is so big, or number of earth electrode is not sufficient, then the lightning current is not dissipated immediately by earth, and it try to find another way with low resistance that connected to the system. The selected way is PLN line. Why is it happened? Because when tower is struck by lightning, then area surrounding of tower including any part inside of grounding system are raised together to high voltage as high as lightning voltage. As we understood that electric current will be flowing if there any different voltage between two section. And the current will make a looping as illustrate in figure below.

Proposal Solution 1. Install some ground electrode (i.e. rods, ground cable, plate or any metal buried under ground as earth termination). It is intended to make sufficient way for lightning current to be dissipated by earth. 2. Install interceptor arrestor at the nearest PLN pole. Surely, it requires coordination with PLN for the installation. This method is intended to intercept or catch lightning current before spreading to community. The current after intercepted will create a looping as shown in figure below. So, hopefully lightning current won’t go to the community anymore.
