History of the first Hot Air balloon 1782 France, Joseph Michel Montgolfier filled silk bag with hot air It rose to the ceiling because air in the bag was less dense than air around it April 25, 1783 Joseph and his brother Jacques Etienne built a larger bag filled with hot air from a fire They put several farm animals in the basket, then they created a bigger model, on November 21, 1783 in Bois de Boulage Paris they launched a 70 foot balloon They lifted 3000 feet and stayed in the air for 28 minutes travelling 5 miles controlling
