Helpful Hints: Multiply all flag dimension numbers given on the Wikipedia page by 1000 o flag size becomes 1000 wide x 1900 wide, so set your page size to these dimensions Check your Snap settings in Document Properties. The bounding box corners needs to be enabled. Draw the union and stripes first o Use grid spacing of X:380 (1/5 of 1900) and Y:76.9 (1/13 of 1000) o Don’t forget to draw the white stripes o Make the red and blue colors match exactly – put the Wikipedia RGB value into the RGB tab for fill o Turn off the stroke on the union & stripes Draw the stars last o Use grid spacing of X:63.3 (1/12 of 2/5 of 1900) and Y:53.8 (1/10 of 7/13 of 1000) o BIG TRICK: Change the grid origin to X:30.8 and Y:1030.8 (this starts the grid in the upper left corner of the flag and offsets it by half of the star diameter – the stars don’t snap to their centers, they snap to a point where the left and top edges would intersect) o Draw a 5 cornered star with a spoke ratio of 0.400, then select it with the arrow tool and change the width and height to 61.6 o Turn off the stroke on the star o Copy or clone or tile clone that star 50 times Body Stripes
