Greater Dublin Independent Living is a peer led organization for people with disabilities in Dublin City and County. We are part of the wider Centres for Independent Living movement. The goal of GDIL is to provide information, advocacy and peer support to those who wish to experience Independent Living. We provide independent professional advocacy through hosting the Dublin Leader Advocacy Service, which is one of the Citizens Information Board’s community and voluntary sector advocacy services for people with disabilities.

Central to the conference is the issue of how Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People is enacted in Ireland. The article recognises “ the equal right of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others, and shall take effective and appropriate measures to facilitate full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of this right and their full inclusion and participation in the community.”
