Research Topic 



My research topic is on systems of governance. I will be comparing the system of theocracy (Iran) with the system of democracy (Singapore). The main focus on this essay is how the system of governance has affected the development of a country, especially on the economic front.

Trade Policies 



Iran’s strict trading policy, derived for the Islamic Law, puts a strain on the country’s export and imports. Singapore’s free market and outward orientation allows it to be more open towards international trade. Its duty-free also encourages more nations to export there.

GDP growth 



Iran’s economy is fairly strong though it was much stronger economically before the theocratic regime took over. Singapore’s economy has seen a steady, constant growth throughout the years. Inflation has reached an all time high but economy still growing.

Conclusion 



So from the above argument, it can be seen that democracy with its liberal nature is better aided to develop a country economically, but how about other areas? What about political and social aspects? So the conclusion is that the system of governance does aid in certain aspects of the development of a country to a large extent, but then again, there are other factors, that can shape and develop a nation into what it is.
