I. Background of the Study A. Date According to Encyclopedia of World Cultures, East and Southeast Asia edited by Paul Hockings (G.K. Hall & Company, 1993)], The Ifugaos are believed to have arrived from China around 2000 years ago years and have built massive rice terraces that would be a symbol of the province in later time. Residing in the mountainous region of north-central Luzon around the of town Banaue, There is some evidence that the first rice terraces may have been carved out of the mountains as early as 1000 B.C. Most were built in the last four centuries. B. Location

The Ifugao House is commonly built in the Cordillera Mountains, Northern Part of Luzon. Houses are built in relation to the local topography; the terraced contours of the rice terraces.
