IEP Membership The Institution is the premier and largest organization of qualified engineers having a membership of over 50,000 engineers of various disciplines. The number of the Corporate Members exceeds 30,000 and with the passage of time the membership is increasing firstly because of the enhanced technical activities and secondly due to urge of the Engineers to equip their knowledge with latest techniques, research, know-how and the confidence reposed by them in the working and functioning of the Institution. Membership of the Institution consists of two classes: i) ii)

Corporate Non-Corporate

Only Corporate Members have the right to vote, to requisite meetings and to be elected to the Council. i)

Corporate Members are divided into the following two categories: a) Chartered Engineer b) Fellow c) Member

ii)

Non-Corporate Members are divided as under: a) Honorary Fellow b) Associate Member c) Associate d) Student Member e) Affiliate f) Subscriber

Abbreviated Titles The Members of the Institution, both corporate & non-corporate, excluding students rightly take pride in being members of the Institution and they are entitled to write after their names the following affixes: Chartered Engineer Honorary Fellow Fellow Member Associate Member Associate Affiliate Subscriber

Engineering Disciplines Currently 17 No. disciplines i.e Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Aeronautical, Metallurgical, Mining, Marine, Nuclear, Electronics, Production, Industrial, Structural, Telecommunication, Petrogas, Computer Engineering, Bio Engineering are represented in the Institution. The Council, however, can add more disciplines in future keeping in view new developments in the field of engineering and technologies. Eligibility / Requirements Every candidate for admission to a category of membership shall produce evidence satisfactory to the council that he satisfies the desired conditions:

Chartered Engineer [C.Eng. (Pak)] He must be a Fellow of IEP and must be holding, or must have held in the past, positions of high responsibility in the Engineering profession, for a minimum of 20 years. Fellow [F.I.E. (Pak)] He shall not be less than 40 (forty) years of age; possesses minimum of B.Sc. Engg. degree or equivalent; holds a position of high responsibility in the Engineering profession for the last ten years and must be Life member. Member [M.I.E. (Pak)] He shall not be less than 27 (twenty-seven) years of age; possesses minimum of B.Sc. Engg. degree or equivalent; and has three to four years of practical experience. Honorary Fellow [Hon. F.I.E. (Pak)] Person of distinction whom the institution desires to honor for services rendered thereto, or whose association is deemed to be of benefit to the Institution. Associate Member [A.M.I.E. (Pak)] He shall have passed B.Sc. Engineering degree or equivalent, as a minimum. Associate [Associate I.E. (Pak)] He shall have satisfactory completed the three (3) year programme of instruction in a technology leading to a diploma of Associate Engineer or equivalent recognize by the council. Student Member He shall be attending a regular course of studies leading to a degree in engineering. He is a student in a technical institution recognize by the institution, and must be in his final year. Affiliate [Affiliate I.E. (Pak)] Persons, not engineers, but whose interest are connected with the engineering profession through their occupation. Subscriber [Subscriber I.E. (Pak)] The council may at its discretion attach to the institution as a Subscriber any Government Department, Public Body, Registered Company, Firm or individual not eligible to be a member of any other category. Each Subscriber shall be entitled to attend or (if the subscriber be other than an individual) to depute representative to attend Annual Conversation.
