STUDENT ATTENDANCE MONITORING SYSTEM Abstract Computers are affecting every sphere of human activities and bring about many changes in traditional style of personal life and office works. The computer’s have invaded every sphere of our life and have changed the way people communicate. Every enterprise uses computer in some or other to process a variety of data. This project aims to introduce computerization of Student Attendance Monitoring system for College. This portal is developed based on the idea to automate the functions of the attendance system and keep the attendance details about the student to produce various reports.

This project developed under Windows XP platform using Microsoft visual basic..Net as the front end and MS-SQLServer as the back end. Windows has emerged, as a powerful desktop operating system for catering to complex business needs such as networking. Visual basic provides a graphical environment in which you visually design the forms and controls that become the building blocks of your applications. We are using oracle as the back end providing database support. It is a Relational Data Base Management System.

Modules 1. Student Details 2. Staff Details 3. Course Details 4. Semester Working Days 5. Attendance Details 6. Reports

1 . Student master The student master enables the user to store the student details like student name department, course and personal details. 2. Staff Master The Staff Master is used to store staff details like staff name, staff id, etc., 3. Course Master The course master enables to maintain the course details on the college. 4. Semester Working days This module is used to prepare the working days details of the particular semester. This detail is prepared based on course. 5. Attendance Details This module is used to store the attendance details of the student on the college. The attendance detail is maintained separately by the each course on the department. 6. Reports This module is used to get necessary reports like date wise, month wise and student and department wise.

Study on Existing System Existing system is automated manually. Human beings are having their own speed limitations as they are not having any superhuman talents to maintain all the details. He had to manually maintain different record for student details, Leave details, and attendance details etc. There are a lot of inconsistencies to the existing system. References are to be made to a large number of documents and it is time consuming. So it is necessary to computerize the existing system to make it efficient, flexible and secure.

Limitations of the Existing system The existing system has certain disadvantages. They are as follows: It takes a lot of time since it has been done manually. 

Difficult to maintain large number of records.



Retrieving data is time consuming.



Low data storage capacity.



Desired level of accuracy may not be achieved.



Not user friendly.

Study on Proposed System The proposed system is developed in order to surpass the hardships and provide the necessary information instantaneously. Accuracy, Reliability, Speed, are some of the virtues that clime for their performance and efficiency by the software. The automation of the existing system provides quick service to maintain the attendance system in college. Mainly there are three modules for this software, the modules are: 1. Master Details 2. Leave registration 3. Attendance registration.
