Reproductive Development



Full function is initiated at puberty when the hypothalamus synthesyzes and realease gonadotropic releasing factor w/c in turn triggers Anterior Pituitary gland to form abd begin release FSH and LH



Initiate production of androgen and estrogen w/c in turn initiate visible signs of maturity or secondary sexual characteristics.

Gonad-is a body that produce sex cells Male-testes Female-ovary  Puberty is a stage of life at w/c secondary sex chages begin Girls 10-13 yrs old Boys 12- 14 yrs old 

Lack of fat can delay/halt menstruation(athletes,Dancers)

THE ROLE OF ANDROGEN  Hormones

responsible for muscular development,physical growth & ↑ in sebaceous gland secretion  Development of Pubic hair & axillary hair  Influence the development of female secondary sex characteristics  Thelarche-beginning of breast development  Menarche-1st menstrual period

COMPONENTS OF SEXUALITY Sexuality-multi dimensional phenomenon that includes feelings,attitudes and action Development of Gender Identity Biologic gender- term use to denote chromosomal sexual development Male -XY Female-XX Sexual identity- inner sense of person has of being male or female Gender role-a behavior a person conveys about being male or female

HUMAN SEXUAL RESPONSE Sexuality has always been part of human life,but it is only in the past few decades that it has been studied scientifically by experts in the field of sex reasearch.One common finding of researchers has been that feelings and attitudes about sex vary widely;the sexual experience is unique to each individual, but sexual physiology shows that is how the body responds to sexual arousal has common features.

4 STAGES Stage 1 Excitement occurs w/physical and phychological stimulation that cause parasympathetic nerve stimulation both sexes ↑CR ↑RR ↑BP  Stage 2 Plateau stage reached before orgasm 

Stage 3 Orgasm(Climax) Occurs when stimulation proceeds through the plateau stage to a point w/c the body suddenly discharges accumulated sexual tension Stage 4 Resolution Period w/c the external and internal genital organ return to an unaroused state.generally takes 30min for both sexes.

TYPES OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION 1.Heterosexuality-one who finds sexual fulfillment w/a member of opposite gender 2.Homosexuality-a person who finds sexual fulfillment w/ a member of his or her own sex. 3.Bisexuality-people who achieve sexual satisfaction from both heterosexual & homosexual 4.Transexuality -example is sex change operation .

TYPES OF SEXUAL EXPRESSION 1.Celibacy-abstinence from sexual activity  2.Masturbation-self stimulation for erotic pleasure  3.Erotic stimulation -use of visual materials such as magazine or photographs for sexual arousal  4.Fetishism-sexual arousal by use of certain objects or stimulations.  5.Transvestism-individual who dresses to take on the role of opposite sex.  6.Voyeurism-Sexual arousal by looking at others body 

7.Sadomasochism-involves inflicting pain(sadism)or receiving pain(masochism)to achieve sexual satisfaction.  8.Exhibitionism-reavealing one’s genitals in public.  9.Phidophiles-interested in sexual encounters with children 

DISORDER OF SEXUAL FUNCTIONING PRIMARY SEX DYSFUNCTION(LIFE LONG CONDITION) 

  

 

1.Erectile Dysfunction -inability to produce an erection enough for vaginal penetration formerly called as impotence.drug of choice is Sildenafil(Viagra) 2.Premature Ejaculation -ejaculation before penile contact. 3.Failure to achieve orgasm -can be due to poor sexual technique or concentration. 4.Vaginismus -involuntary contraction of the muscles at the outlet of vagina when coitus is attempted,prohibits penile penetration usually occurs w/ raped trauma victims 5.Dyspareunia-pain during coitus 6.Inhibiting Sexual Desire -lack of desire for sexual relations.

SECONDARY SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION Chronic disease,such as peptic ulcer,or chronic pulmonary disease that cause frequent pain or discomfort may interfere with a man or woman’s overall well being.  Obese men and women may have difficulty achieving deep penetration because of bulk in their abdomen 
