Human Rights in Gaza Operation Cast Lead has been lasting for two weeks now, with a total of hundreds of casualties, thousands wounded, and more than a million lives in sake. Hamas has been firing missiles at Israel for 8 years. The current operation’s goal is to stop Hamas’ aggression. Israel’s focus is on terminating Hamas’ weapon factories and smuggling. You wouldn’t expect Israel not to fight back, especially if you lived under the aim of the missiles. But where does Hamas manufacture and keep its weapons and ammunition? Believe it or not: they are manufactured and kept in schools, mosques, and in Gaza’s main hospital. The schools’ students, the mosques’ prayers and the hospital’s patients are used as human shields for Hamas’ militants and weapons. Now Hamas is saying: Israel is attacking Palestinian children and mosques. Israel is depressing the Palestinians and the Islam. Did you ever stop and think what reason does Israel have for doing such things? Remember: Israel is a democratic state. Israeli citizens can be heard sometimes talking against Israel’s actions – that’s because Israel gives its people freedom of expression. The Jewish people have suffered only a few decades ago from the holocaust. The Jewish people have suffered from racism for thousands of years. Why would we do the same things to others? Are you worried about human rights in Gaza? If yes, you should be worried about human rights everywhere. You should be worried about missiles being fired at Israeli cities. You should be worried about women and children being sacrificed and used as human shields for Hamas’ militants. You should be worried about Hamas’ education, which teaches children from a young age hatred of Israel and praises death.
