We see and listen about heart everywhere. A long time ago, people even thought that their emotions came from their heart, perhaps because the heart beats quicker when a person is terrified or energized. Let’s see what does it look like. What is its function. And lots more.

COVERING:-HEART IS PROTECTED BY A DOUBBLE WALLED MEMBRANOUS COVERING CALLED PERICARDIUM.IT CONTAINS LUBRICATING PERICARDIUM FLUID WHICH REDUCES FRICTION DURING HEART BEAT AND PROTECTS IT FROM MECHANICAL INJURIES.

LOCATION:-NOT ON THE LEFT SIDE, BUT IT IS CENTRALLY SITUATED,ABOVE THE DIAPHRAGM IN THE RIBCAGE.NARROW END OF THE ROUGHLY TRIANGULAR HEART IS POINTED TO THE LEFT SIDE {SEE FIGURE} AND DURING WORKING CONTRACTION OF HEART IS MOST POWERFULL AT THIS END GIVING A FEELING OF HEART BEAT ON LEFT SIDE.

CHAMBERS IN HEART AURICLES {MARKED 4 & 9} ARE TOW UPPER CHAMBERS. VENTRICLES ARE TWO LOWER CHAMBERS. AURICLES :-THEY HAVE THINNER WALLS BECAUSE THEIR MAJOR FUNCTION IS TO RECEIVE BLOOD FROM BODY. VENTRICLES :-THEY HAVE THICK MUSCULAR WALL BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO PUMP BLOOD TO LONG DISTANCE

BLOOD VESSELS ENTERING HEART ANTERIOR VANA CAVA {MARKED AS 6} BRING DEOXYGINATED BLOOD TO RIGHT AURICLE FROM UPPER BODY PARTS. POSTERIOR VANA CAVA- {MARKED AS 1} CAVA-BRING DEOXYGINATED BLOOD TO RIGHT AURICLE FROM LOWER BODY PARTS BESIDE THIS 4 PULMONARY VEINS ARE RECEIVED BY LEFT AURICLE.THEY BRING OXYGINATED BLOOD.

BLOOD VESSELS LEAVING HEART PULMONARY ARTERY {MARKED AS 5} –IT CARRIES DEOXYGINATED BLOOD TO LUNGS FOR OXYGINATION FROM RIGHT VENTRICLE. AORTA –CARRIES OXYGINATED BLOOD TO BODY PARTS FROM LEFT VENTRICLE.

CORONARY ARTERIES {MARKED AS 3} ARISE AT BASE OF AORTA.THEY SUPPLY BLOOD TO HEART MUSLES .THEIR BLOCKAGE LEAD TO MYOCARDIAL INFRACTION OR HEART ATTACK.
