House of Style Décor for every room
To create a home that’s as comfortable as it is stylish, it’s important to consider how you live. “Do you live in your bedroom? Then make it very luxurious with a fantastic bed. Put the sound system in there and do great closets,” said top designer Christopher Coleman. But if you only stay home to entertain guests, shift your focus to the living room. No matter what room you use the most, a few simple changes can take your décor from blah to brilliant. —Heather Corcoran

The living room is the all-purpose player in most homes. Flexible seating arrangements allow the room to express its multiple personalities. And don’t be afraid of color — an accent wall helps to anchor a heavy piece, while throw pillows and accessories add small hints of color. “People get scared to death, they think you’re going to paint every room a different color,” said Coleman. “It’s all in the dosage.”

The master suite is the home’s sanctuary, so opt for soothing décor to help you unwind. But the bedroom is also a great place to experiment. “People are sometimes afraid [of color] in their public spaces,” said Coleman. “A good pointer for the person who is fearful of color is to use it in your private spaces.”
