b. Run the Crosstabs procedure for the independent variable SEX and the dependent variable CHILD2. Is there an association between these two variables? If so, how strong is the association?
The association between the variables SEX and CHLD2 is the difference in opinion amongst the independent variable of SEX. More females responded than males did. More females think that 0 – 2 kids are best, as well as 2 – 3 kids. The association however is somewhat strong. In both instances the difference in the female to male approval of 2 or less kids, and 2 or more is only by at least 10percent.
c. Does the relationship between SEX and CHILD2 depend on values of other variables like education? Add DEGREE and run the Crosstabs procedure again. Explain how the relationship between SEX and CHILD2 varies across levels of education.
Yes, the relationship between SEX and CHLD2 depend on values of other variables. The amount of education one has, has some bearing on theirapproval of children and how many. Men who had their graduates’ degree had the highest percentage in both categories: 0 – 2 and 3 or more. Generally, the more education the men had the higher their approval percents were. The opposite was the case for the women. Women who had their graduates’ degree had the lowest percentage in both categories, compared to women who had their bachelors, attended a junior college, graduated high school, and had less than a high school education.
