History course work 2 Though history key events have shaped the views of groups in Northern Ireland in both Nationalists and Unionists. Source one Between 1845 -1851 there was a disease called blight which destroyed most potatoes. The unionists believed it was a natural disaster and nothing could be done about it .On the other hand the Catholics blamed British government as they believe they had no help from them. One million Catholics died due to the potato famine Source 2 Loyalists believe Michael stone is thought of an hero because he killed 3 catholic people .This now shows if people think of him as a hero they will now show that they can follow up his actions .Because Catholics have had 3 people killed they will react and grow stronger as a group . Source 3 Battle of the Somme was in world war one when many British soldiers were killed including Irish. Nationalists believe the battle was a waste of lives and that Britain was using the Irish because of this nationalists believe that Irish should not remain a part of Britain .The unionists believe that Britain owe them for the lives they have lost so Britain should stay loyal to them. Source 4 King Billy is a protestant he won the battle of the Boyne in 1690 and has been committed to the orange institution in Northern Ireland ever since. On the day of the Boyne Protestants would march down Catholic and Protestant streets in memory of the great battle. Protestants thought of him as a hero but Catholics disagreed with that. Source 5 Source 5 is an article that Tony Blair announcing a public inquiry into Bloody Sunday .Bloody Sunday happened on the 30th of January 1972 it is were people march down the centre of the city .Apparently the British army opened fired on the Irish leaving 13 innocent men dead. The nationalists thought the British army was neutral but after Bloody Sunday the nationalists turned against the British army .They is proof for this

because the I.R.A killed the British army 17 people died in a revenge attack. Source 6 Source 6 is about the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 over 3 centuries ago but still effects the people of Northern Ireland today. Gordon Wilson believes people in Northern Ireland wants peace. Source 7 Source 7 shows a protestant mural on a side of a house it is a very sad mural which represents the lives around 100 innocent civilian men. This mural represents tow the I.R.A bombings in Northern Ireland The mural has, bloody Sunday tee bane, shankill, Enniskillen, a monand omagh.The bombings that the I.R.A done led to revenge attacks this caused a cycle of violence .Nowadays people want violence to stop and to have peace . in conclusion all the sources have had a negative view on peoples opinions of each other .
