DEPARTMENT OF AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING The Department of Aeronautical Engineering was started in the year 2005. Following the recent trend of opening up the sky to the private operators, it is estimated that by the year 2010 there will be 50 airline operators and 1000 fleets of aircrafts to cater to the needs of 100 million air passengers in India alone. Accordingly tremendous job opportunities has opened up in the category of Engineering pilot, Maintenance Engineers, Ground Staff, ATC staff, Air craft designers, Airport Managers, Researchers at Aerospace Establishments etc.. COURSES OFFERED The department offers - B.E Degree Programme in Aeronautical Engineering - 4 Years

CURRICULUM AND SYLLABI The students of Aeronautical Engineering learn both the basic and advanced topics in all areas of Aeronautical Engineering like Applied Mechanics, Aero Engineering Thermodynamics, Elements of Aeronautics, Aerodynamics , Aircraft Systems and Instrumentations, Aircraft Structures, Flight Dynamics, Propulsion, Heat Transfer , Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Rockets and Missiles. The students are given thorough training in various laboratories so as to provide them sufficient hands on experience Refer www.annauniv.edu & www.annauniv.ac.in for detailed curriculum.

FACILITIES

AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES LABORATORY The objective of conducting the aircraft structures laboratory is to make the students understand and appreciate various principles and theorems involved in the theory of aircraft structures, vibrations and experimental stress analysis by doing simple and advanced experiments and analyzing the results. This will immensely help the students to enrich their knowledge in the design of various aircraft structural components, namely, wings, fuselage, landing gear, control surfaces, etc. Special equipments like two-dimensional photo-elastic set-up, fatiguetesting machine, electronic stroboscopes, viscous damping set-up, and forced vibration set-up are also to be installed in the nearest future. It is also proposed to set-up facilities for fabricating fiber composite laminates, since they find many applications in nearly all aircraft structural components. It is one of the visions of the department to make this laboratory, a very special one of its kind in this part of the country.

AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS LABORATORY The aeronautical engineering department has a four seater CESSNA Aircraft with all accessories for conducting experiments on various systems like aircraft hydraulic system, de-icing and anti-icing system, landing gear system, oxygen system, pressurization system, aircraft electrical systems and their components in the aircraft systems laboratory.

AERO-ENGINE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE LABORATORY

An engine is the heart of any aircraft. Knowing its various components, their working principles, repair and maintenance practices is of utmost importance to an aeronautical engineer. Throwing light into this fact, the aeronautical engineering department is equipped with an AeroEngine Repair and Maintenance Laboratory. This Lab is equipped with a piston engine and a jet engine. Practical knowledge of aero-engine repair and maintenance is imparted to the students by making them physically dismantle, inspect and assemble the various components/units such as aero-engine piston, cylinder, carburetor, oil filter, exhaust unit and intake guide vanes of the piston engine.
