BA2/18 A low cost, easy to use domestic amplifier boosts both VHF & UHF channels. Built in filter prevents FM radio interference, as well as minimising interference from Pagers and some Cellular Telephone Transmissions. Two output sockets to facilitate a second TV set.

The BA10 Amplifier Splitter is a simple solution when a second TV or FM radio is to be run off the one antenna and the signal is not strong enough to support both. The BA10 plugs into the power socket behind the TV and provides two 75 Ohms outlets.

It can be used in full channel signal FTTx (≤10km>, and can also be used in DWDM narrow band multiplexing as well as IP or in Foxtel / Austar QPSK-QAM networks.

Once you have selected the pre-programmed channel for your DVD player, use your remote control to activate the PLAY function. The infrared signal travels via the Hills Home Hub cables, through the central enclosure, through the Hills modulator, to the DVD player in your entertainment area. The DVD will then send the movie back to the TV that you're watching. The Hills smart entertainment system allows you to control the functions of your VCR, DVD, or pay TV remotely, in any room where there's a TV.

Distributed Music Enjoy superior stereo sound in any room of your home with the Hills Home Music wall or ceiling mounted speakers. A CD player in your home entertainment area sends music signals via the Hills Home Hub cables, through the central enclosure to the rooms in which the speakers are located. Set the volume level independently in each room using the volume control.

The configuration of any headend will vary greatly depending on the individual requirements of the customer and the specification of the installation. The following headend configurations are given as a guide only, the actual headend configuration will be decided by the designer based on the information supplied. Astro is a high-end headend equipment manufacturer from Germany; Hills Industries is the exclusive agent and distributor for Astro in Australia. The Astro Headend equipment provides effective satellite TV distribution suited to a variety of applications. Astro is the only headend approved by Austar and Foxtel. Astro QAM The main modules sold by Hills Industries for the Astro headends are the QPSK to QAM transmodulators. These modules convert digital satellite signals into digital cable channels for distribution within an 860 MHz distribution network. The digital satellite signals could originate from different satellites in different orbital positions and be received by multiple satellite dishes. These received services could include Subscription – TV operators such as Foxtel / AUSTAR, SelecTv, Jadeworld, UBI or MySat. Once converted into digital cable (QAM) signals they can then be injected into old or new MATV / CATV networks that are only designed up to 860MHz. QAM operates at frequencies between 47 and 862 MHZ and unlike satellite signals (QPSK) that operate at frequencies up to 2GHZ QAM does not require amplifiers and passives to be upgraded. QAM does not require multiple trunks or backbones or multiple lateral cables to be run to the wall plate so that set top boxes for Foxtel IQ or AUSTAR Mystar have full functionality. The simpler network topology and the lower cost of passive devices and amplifiers quickly recover the headend cost. The Astro headend utilising QPSK to QAM conversion is ideally suited to Brownfield sites where upgrading distribution cable is not practicable such as apartments, office towers, sporting venues, shopping centres, hospitals, caravan parks and prisons. The Astro solution is also well suited for Greenfield estates or any other network only capable of passing up to 860MHz. One of the Astro equipment’s main selling points is the remote monitoring facility and their software management tool. This makes the Astro equipment ideal for headends that may be installed in remote locations and which integrators wish to control and maintain remotely. The software allows spare modules in the base unit to be turned on and off or reconfigured as desired. The Astro equipment can send different types of alarms via SNMP or GSM to warn of failures of any type within the headend. Astro Terrestrial The Astro equipment also features Free To Air (FTA) modules such as COFDM – COFDM and COFDM – Pal converters. While these modules are a little more expensive from Astro compared to other options, typical installations often have multiple base units with spare slots that could easy accommodate these FTA modules. This then provides a total FTA and Subscription TV solution. Together with the satellite and FTA modules the complete headend would have now full remote monitoring capability allowing the user to have the ability to monitor, reconfigure and turn modules on or off remotely. This is a major selling feature of the Astro equipment.

Technical Information 15 ! Polytron is a respected Headend manufacturer and supplier from Germany. Hills Industries are the agents for Polytron in the Oceanic region. The main strengths for Polytron are the small physical size of the base unit and the range of plug in modules that cater for digital satellite, analogue and digital terrestrial and FM applications. A Polytron headend is the perfect solution when you have the need to amplify, convert, modulate and filter out unwanted channels and then combine the wanted services ready for distribution into a network. The base unit (SPM1000 digi) is a 10-slot device that can be either wall or rack mounted. At only 5RU high (180mm) the SPM1000 base unit is the most popular base unit sold. It comes standard with power supply, 10dB amplifier and control panel to program any of plug in modules that can be installed in the frame. The base unit’s software can be easily upgraded by fitting a replacement EPROM that lies under the front control panel cover. The base unit combines all the RF outputs of each module via a back plane and provides an output on the front panel as well as a test point which is 20dB down from the main output. Where the satellite TV services use an encryption method other than Irdeto it is necessary to use multiple set top boxes to provide the AV signal source to feed to the Polytron modulators. Polytron Satellite Satellite modules include a twin QPSK – AV with CI card (SPM-PSTI) with the ability to insert a conditional access module and smart card to work with operators such as Optus Aurora and AUSTAR or other services using Irdeto encryption. This card is used to convert two digital FTA satellite signals from one satellite transponder into two baseband signals ready to insert into a twin modulator card. Both types could be used in headend installation to provide a superior solution rather than using a domestic set top box (STB) to receive the desired FTA or encrypted signals.

Polytron Terrestrial Given that analogue services in Australia will be shut down over the next few years it is no longer a sensible option to rely on distributing the off air analogue signals. If the system needs analogue signals distributed, for instance to allow viewers to continue using analogue sets, it is prudent to create the analogue signals from the digital off air signals by conversion. For terrestrial reception Polytron offers twin COFDM – AV (SPM-PTTI) conversion in either single or twin stream versions. These enable the integrator to chose between one or two streams from one terrestrial multiplexer and convert these digital signals into baseband 1-volt video signals. The baseband signals can then be converted to RF via separate modulators for distribution. The primary use for these modules is to receive digital FTA signals and convert back to analogue either because analogue reception is impaired with ghosting, intermodulation or just to noisy. The other reason is to enable customers to keep their older analogue TV sets in use.

Polytron Modulators Polytron is a perfect choice when in-house services need to be reticulated throughout a structured network. These in-house services could be from any baseband source such as VCR’s, DVD’s, PC, CCTV, Set top boxes or text generators with a 1Volt peakpeak output. All the Polytron modulators in the range are VSB, which in turn means there are capable of adjacent channels. For example you can set the outputs on channels 30,31,32,33… Modulators in range start from the twin mono version (SPMMMTQ) then the twin stereo version (SPM-MSTQ) to the new 4 - channel stereo version. This new modulator (SPM-MS4) module contains 4 x RF modulators on a single card and hence with a fully loaded base unit and ten x SPM-MS4 cards you have 40 x stereo VSB TV channels in a 5RU housing.
