Fejfar Previously, I have discussed the concepts of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory, coming to the conclusion that the only real “place” on the other side that we go to after death is Purgatory. While I am not retracting the foregoing position, I am going to modify it a bit. I argue that Heaven exists, not as a place, but as a State of Being.
Heaven, then, is
a State of Consciousness, a state of Spiritual Consolation, not a place on a map. Therefore, it is possible that in Purgatory I could very well experience Heaven—as a State of Being, or a Mode of Being. As the Mystics say, it is possible then that even here on Earth that I could experience Heaven, at least for a time, in spite of the fact that I find myself to be in prison, or on a psychiatric ward. Heaven, then, is a Higher Emotional State. It is a State of Bliss, of Nirvana, of Meaningful Happiness. Thus, while I have ruled Heaven out as a Place separate from Purgatory; as a State of Being, and minimally a Place, Heaven can still exist.
I still rule
out Hell as both a Place and as a State of Being. I don’t think that God will allow a State of Being to exist where the person experiences the “complete absence of God.” Somehow, even in the worst of situations I believe that God, in the Person of the Holy Spirit is still present to everyone. impossible to commit.
