PROGRAMS

A. EXPANDED PROGRAM ON IMMUNIZATION 1. Program Description The goal of the program is to protect from the seven (7) immunizable diseases by providing specific protection by the use of effective vaccines against tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles and hepatitis B infection, and protect the newborn from tetanus by immunizing pregnant mothers. The main thrust of the program is to increase the number of children and mothers immunized to reduce the mortality and morbidity from these preventable diseases. The target populations of the program are children under one year, school entrants and pregnant mothers. 2. Accomplishment

B. FAMILY PLANNING 1. Program Description This program is directed towards the improvement of the family well being through the population information and education program and through family planning methods, but giving respect to the couples’ right and conviction based on their moral and religious beliefs. The actual beneficiaries of the program are Filipino families and the direct benefits are the improved family welfare and reduction of the health problems especially those referring to children and mothers. 2. Accomplishment See tables on the succeeding pages. 3. Issues and Concerns The contraceptive prevalence rate is 28% from FHSIS reports. However, the results of the community-based monitoring and information system (CBMIS) show that 72% of women are using family planning methods and are satisfied with the method they are using. The coverage for new acceptors is 136%, which is over the target. FHSIS records women who utilize the services of the health facility. The women who buy their own contraceptive supplies or who get their family planning services from other health facilities (either private, hospital, etc.) are not recorded in this facility-based information system. Clients who preferred Bilateral Tubal Ligation were referred to the FriendlyCare Clinic in Mandaluyong for PhilHealth members and to the Rizal Medical Center and Pasig General Hospital for non-PhilHealth members. 4. DEMOGRAPHY Based on the National Statistics Office, PATEROS has a total population of 60, 110 in 2006, with a projected population of 60, 574 in 2007. The population distribution in 10 barangays for 2007 was based on the results of the mass survey conducted by the health staff during the first quarter of 2006. See Table 2. Table 2.

There were 14,148 households surveyed in the entire municipality in 2006, which is 145 households less than those surveyed in 2005 (14,293 households in 2005). Barangay Sta. Ana, having the largest land area is also the most populated having 43.08% of the total population. The population density is high at 32,920 persons per square kilometer.

Based on the 1995 NSO survey, the sex ratio and the dependency ratio are 97% and 57%, respectively. The 1995 population pyramid shows a wide base, depicting a young population. There is a widening of the figure at 25 to 29 years, and this may be a reflection of the rate of in-migration. The municipality is favorable for settlement by the working population being very near the business sectors in Makati and Manila. B.

HEALTH STATUS The vital indices for 2006 are shown in Table 3 & Figure 1. There was no maternal death reported during the year. There were 224 deaths reported, 121 or 54.01% were males and 103 or 45.09% were females. 15 of these were children under 5 years old and 9 of these were among the less than 1 year old.
