Engineering

Cognizant of the ever-incraesing need for quality education and the fact there are no more than a couple of private sector institutions offering degree level education in engineering, the Brains management has decided to launch a School of Engineering and Technology. The construction of a building at the back of the existing campus is in progress and the process of affiliation with the concerned University and Board has been initiated. We are convinced that the School of Engineering & Technology will hopefully be launched with the commencement of the 2009-10 academic session. We urge all our well wishers, our alumni and the people of out province to pray for our success while we on our part undertake to give our best to make the project a success.

The School of Mathematics offers Bachelor and Master degrees in Mathematics in affiliation to the University of Peshawar. In today's advanced age of technologies continues to play a pivotal role in the scheme of “Science Education”. No scientific social research can be effectively carried out without a grasp of Mathematical Techniques. Thus it has become an integral part of our academic disciplines. Mindful of the future of the students, BRAINS launched its Master program in Mathematics in affiliation to University of Peshawar from session 2004/05. The program is launched with the sole objective of producing a very special breed of budding professionals in the field of Mathematics, who attain their BSc (Hons) degree leading to one year Master degree under the same roof and are groomed with the real strength of character and professionalism, to boldly face the challenges that lie ahead.

Eligibility

Candidates must have passed B.Sc. Mathematics-A & Mathematics-B examination in at least 2nd division from any recognized University with minimum of 45% marks in the subject of Mathematics-B. For admission to the B.Sc program 45% marks in intermediate are equivalent is required. It is a must for candidates to have studied Mathematics as a subject at the Intermediate level and to have attend a minimum of 45% marks in the subject.

A team of our computer professionals successfully developed syllabi and authored computer science textbooks from class 9th to 12th duly approved by the NWFP Textbook Board. The some were also granted NOC for publication in all the four provinces of Pakistan.

Our software team (b-soft) brought us remarkable recognition by computerizing the examination and managements systems of all boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in NWFP.

One of our sister organizations has also computerized for the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Mirpur Khas Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

BRAINS is amongst few information Technology institutions certified by the Ministry of Science Technology (MOST) for running its programs. BRAINS is one of the few PCB (Pakistan Computer Bureau) selected I.T institutions to impart I.T training to over a thousand government employees of the Province.

SCHOOL OF QUALITY & MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

The main objectives of the programs at the college are briefly stated below:

1. &nbs p; &nbs p; To provide broad and fundamental education so as to prepare students for positions carrying management and leadership responsibilities in both public and private sector organizations after completing their degrees or academic programs.

2. &nbs p; &nbs p; To integrate the concepts and techniques of various disciplines and to apply the skills acquired to the relevant management problems.

3. &nbs p; &nbs p; To explore in all their forms, through education and research the contents, interactions and inter dependencies of disciplines and institutions in the public and private sectors.

4. &nbs p; &nbs p; To foster understanding and advancement of knowledge and skills through research, education and scholarly exchange among public and private sector institutions and NGOs.

6. &nbs p; &nbs p; To study the economic, political, social and cultural environments and project the professional perspective of managerial responsibilities, beyond immediate ones, in the global society.

Academic Regulations for Management Programs

Evaluation and grading

The performance of students will be evaluated through a continuous testing procedure spread over the entire period of studies. Hourly examinations will be administered every month implying that students will appear in three such examinations for each course. The best two scores will be counted towards the final grade. A number of surprise quizzes will be administered during classes to monitor the progress of students. The performance of students in class discussions, written assignments, research reports etc., will also be

evaluated to form a part of their overall performance. Assignments, research reports etc., will also be evaluated to form a part of their over all grades.

If a student fails to submit a term paper, report, home assignment or laboratory assignment, which are requirements of a course, the instructor may allow him the benefit of an “incomplete”. A student who is awarded an “incomplete” in any course can get it removed within 6 weeks from the end of the term. If the requirements are not met within this time limit, the student's grade in that course will be converted into a “failure”. On completion of the course, however, the student shall not receive any further grade, but be given the benefit of the numerical grade point weight of an “incomplete”

No “Make Up” examination will be allowed in any course under any circumstances.
Grade Point Average (GPA) will be computed at the end of the course for all students. Final letter grades in each course will be converted to grade points.

GPA requirements and academic calendar

All academic regulations of the Peshawar University (Institute of Management Studies) will be followed including GPA/CGPA requirements. The academic calendar of the Institute will also be adhered to in all BBA/MBA programs. All courses of the BBA (hons) and MBA programs have been allocated credit hours shown in figures under the semester wise break up given elsewhere. A three credit hour course implies three contact hours of teaching in a week and a minimum of forty eight hours in a semester. This does not include examinations.

Attendance

80% attendance is mandatory for all students in every course. Those with attendance below 80% shall not be allowed to appear in the final examination of the subject in which attendance is below the stipulated minimum.

Evaluation of students for internship programs

Those seeking admission to the BBA (HONS) program offered at the college must.
A. Have passed the Intermediate (FSc/HSSC) examination with a minimum of 45% marks from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan or equivalent qualification from any institution inside or outside Pakistan recognized by the University of Peshawar.
B. Have a certificate from the Principal of the College from where the examination was taken if results are awaited that he/she will be able to qualify with 45% marks.
C. Acquire a migration certificate not later than the date of commencement of the first semester examination to facilitate registration with the University of Peshawar.

D. Produce original transcripts and certificates of HSSC and SSC examinations or equivalent unless the result is awaited in which event the transcript shall have to be provided at a later stage for confirmation of admission.
E. Qualify the aptitude test conducted by Brains and the interview that follows.
F. Submit the prescribed form duly completed before the closing date notified along with testimonials and an original character certificate from the institution last attended.
G. Submit his/her intent to enroll in writing not more than two weeks before the commencement of regular classes.
H. Have paid the required enrolment fees.

Course Catalogue

The Cisco Networking Academy offers a variety of Cisco and sponsored curriculums.

IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software

IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software v4.0 covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts. Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. Students will also be able to connect to the Internet and share resources in a network environment. New topics included in this version include laptops and portable devices, wireless connectivity, security, safety and environmental issues, and communication skills.

Hands-on lab activities will continue to be an essential element of the course. In support of this, virtual learning tools are integrated into this course. The Virtual Laptop and Virtual Desktop are stand-alone tools designed to supplement classroom learning and provide an interactive "handson" experience in learning environments with limited physical equipment.

IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems

IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems is an intensive introduction to multi-user, multi-tasking network operating systems. Characteristics of the Linux, Windows 2000, NT, and XP network operating systems will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of topics including installation procedures, security issues, back up procedures and remote access.

CCNA Discovery

The Cisco CCNA Discovery curriculum provides foundational networking knowledge, practical experience, opportunities for career

exploration, and soft-skills development to help students prepare for entry-level careers in IT and networking. The curriculum offers a hands-on approach to learning, and uses interactive tools and easy-to-follow labs to help students learn the general theory needed to build networks.

CCNA Discovery is designed to be offered as an independent, standalone curriculum or combined with programs offered by secondary schools, technical schools, colleges, and universities. Students who enroll in CCNA Discovery are not expected to have any previous technical skills or knowledge, aside from basic PC skills. The four courses of CCNA Discovery are:

It is designed for students with advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, such as degree candidates in engineering, math, or science, or for working professionals who would like to advance their careers or gain certification. CCNA Exploration was designed to be integrated into technology curricula or continuing education programs at postsecondary institutions such as technical schools, colleges, and universities. The four courses of CCNA Exploration are:

Director's MESSAGE

The purpose built campus that you have just entered and the building that is in the process of construction takes me back to 1993 when Brains started its limited program in a small apartment. With the blessings of Almighty Allah this teen-aged institution is now a Postgraduate College which students can enter on completion of their secondary education and leave on acquiring a Masters degree in a field of choice and aptitude.

We trust that you will make the proper choice of the field of studies that you wish to pursue to become a useful professional in the service of this country and its people. It is our endeavor to polish not only your text book knowledge but also to bring home to you the significance of holding fast to your beliefs, your customs and your traditions. There is little doubt that Pakistanis have a brain and brawn to emerge as leaders in their respective fields. Students with good aptitude and hands on working experience in the subject of computer science are offered limited part time jobs as teaching assistants/Lab engineers, field marketing jobs and data entry supervisors.

Financial Assistance to candidates on demonstration of genuine need.
Deserving students are recommended for receiving financial assistance to government as well as donor agencies or persons with commitments to the cause of education.

Admission Policy

The college offers admission on limited number of available seats on open merit to all those candidates who have passed the requisite examination and are eligible for admission under the rules.
1. Admission to all classes will commence immediately after the declaration of the results by the Board. The admission forms can be received from the college after declaration of results till the final date, notified in admission notice for the session.
2. The candidates are required to apply for admission on prescribed form attached to the college prospectus obtainable on payment from the college office during working hours. Attested photocopies of the certificate as mentioned in the prospectus must be attached with the form. Original certificate to be produced at the time of interview/registration.
3. Candidate should submit their forms complete in all respect, with the photocopies of the required certificates attached and a clear indication of the course of studies, they are applying for.
4. Candidates who do not apply for admission in time, or appear for interview on the notified dates shall not be considered for admission. It is the responsibility of the candidates to keep themselves informed of the dates interview/admission.
5. The admission dues are payable immediately after approval of admission. Delay in payment may lead to cancellation of admission.
6. A candidate who fails to join classes after admission for two weeks, shall have his/her name removed from the college rolls, without any refund or liability.
7. Those admitted in F.Sc / F.A part-I shall be required to furnish migration certificate in case they have passed their entrance examination from the Board/University other than Peshawar.

8. Casual admission is not allowed in the college.
9. Obtaining of the college prospectus and mere submission of application form does not entitle a candidate to admission in college.
10. No revised D.M.C will be accepted after the last date for submission of admission forms.
11. Admission form containing incorrect or false information shall stand rejected forthwith even after a candidate has paid admission fee.
12. The college reserves the right to refuse admission to any candidate without assigning any reason.
13. No re-admission will be allowed
14. Once a student has been accepted for admission in to the college, it is taken for granted that all terms and conditions have been carefully read, understood and accepted, by him and his Parents/Guardian.

Admission Procedure

1. Interview by the admission committee assesses the candidates psychological orientation and aptitude.
2. Registration of selected candidates is subjected to presentation of original certificates, submission of photocopies and payment of required fee within the due dates.
