Salon/Spa Hand Hygiene Beauty professionals literally touch more individuals on a daily basis than most medical professionals. Hand washing is a simple thing and it’s the best way to prevent infection and illness. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control & disease.

When to wash hands: • Always use soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.

Hand washing: 1. Wet hands with warm water.

• After coughing, sneezing, and using a tissue or handkerchief. • Before and after eating or smoking.

2. Apply hand soap to hands. 3. Rub hands together vigorously to a lather. 4. Rub for 15- 20 seconds, covering all surfaces

• After using a restroom. Additional for salon/spa professionals: • At the start of the work shift and after breaks. • Before and after working with a client. • After handling soiled equipment and/or tools. When to use a hand sanitizer: • Only when hands are not visibly soiled. • After washing soiled hands. • When soap and water are not available.
